you mean its looked alot more stable and quicker

i was shocked how close the supra was to the zed a markIV would have killed the zed

Depends what was standard and what wasn't. A TT zed should wipe the floor with a MK3 Poopra.

I'm not so sure, the mk4 supra may be slightly quicker but they don't do corners very well.

Its amazing seeing how much more traction the GTR has around a circuit in comparison. The Zed was before its time but the GTR was way before its time!

I mentioned this in another thread but I was quite chuffed to see in Evo magazine that they rated the 300zxTT as the best drivers nissan bar the skyline, rated it very highly.

excellent time there Mkiii, thats obviously not standard.. lol..

T

In the 10 secs! thats a feckin fast supra! The zed must have been heavily modded as well as it wasn't far behind?

that was 10:28 ,,,,,,SH!T that was fast,,,and the Zed jump-started....top bit of vid bud ....

well i think that ALL 300zx owners should be aware of big power jaz70 2.5TT's floating around the UK, and even more wary of a mulitude of headgasket blowing 7M supras that are floting around the roads - Be very aware :-)) Times have indeed changed from those vids were made, especially in the UK tuning scene. So the next time you pull up to a mk3 supra remember - he could quite easily br pushing 450+ BHP quite easily and realistically....

Always had a soft spot for Supra's old style mine you. They always remind me of an old boyfriend . Oh those were the days. An 18 year old with a brand new Supra in black oh yes

I apologize to join a forum just for this Topic, but I had to say something after your comments on the MK3 Supra.

“Depends what was standard and what wasn't. A TT zed should wipe the floor with a MK3 Supra.”

Not quite. Both cars weight roughly the same stock and the UK spec Supra has a less powerful 7M-GTE with 230 or so Horsepower while the 300zx has what? 280? A 50 Horsepower difference is hardly what you’d call a big gap, in fact, with a decent driver, the 7M would probably be just as fast, if not faster than the 300ZX… And if the MK3 has the 280HP 1JZ-GTE installed, well, there is no doubt that the Supra would be right there.

I'm a big believer in appreciating all good cars but (please don't take this the wrong way) I think you have a case of not stepping outside and looking in on things mate. Its a straight fact that a Z32 300zxTT is a better car than a mk3 supra, just as a mk3 supra is a damn site better than a Z31 (earlier 80s zed) which is more in line with what the mk3 supra is competition for. The mk4 supra was delayed so they could make the numbers better than the Z32 300zxTT. Therefore the Mk 4 supra which is the zed competition (not the mk3) was a faster car. I'd still say that the zed handles better than the mk4 supra, but no zed owner can argue that the supra is faster in a straight line and more tunable due to the straight six. Its not an argument point, just straight fact agreed by any performance car person out there.

Obviously this is taking all cars in standard form. Modded is another kettle of fish altogether, with a whole load of different angles and takes.

Have to disagree there mate. I am also a big fan of the Mk3 Supra - I had 2 3.0 turbos before my 300zx. I also drove a j-spec 2.5tt and thought it no better than my 2nd one (a j-spec 3.0 turbo targa). Both were pretty stock, although the j-spec one only had 1 cat hence was a little livelier than my previous UK spec Supra.

However the 300zx is obviously in a different league, way above the venerable Mk3. It is (slightly) lighter and has more power & torque. It is sufficiently quicker to 60 but from there to 100+ my (stock apart from exhaust) 300zx would completely stuff either of my Supras. And the overtaking capabilities of the ZX completely outclassed the Supras. It took me ages to find a worthy replacement for my last Supra but in all honesty the 300zx filled the void and more.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As pointed out, the 300zx's equal is the mkiv TT supra in which case it looses, comparing it with the mk3 aint using a fair playing feild. the mk3 and Z31 are in the same ball Park, and guess who wins that game..

Don't see anyone getting personal. :D

Not seen that report before. Top work! :D

yup nice read, though i can get personal with corvettes - talentless cars is you ask me

theres loads of 300zx related articles on the left hand side of this webpage

http://300zx.cl/

my favourite is this, i reckon it really captures what the zed was about way back in '89 when it was introduced porsche 944 comparison:

http://www.300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/indexauto1189.html

p.s. i found another zed vs supra vs etc etc article

http://www.300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/high.html

I owned an 84 na supra before my mr2 gti and i have to say i loved it. i miss it more than any car i've owned. It was quick for 202bhp and handled really well but as mentioned above it was a late change to the mk4 (mainly because they wanted ot make it better than the z32) which makes the comparison unfair, the mkiii supra wasn't even in the same time frame as the z32 and the fact it holds its place behind the zed well should earn it some respect

I'd just like to say that watching that vid was scarily close to watching a replay on Gran Turismo 4. In fact so close that at the end I went to press X to continue....

...and the Zed did well, and regardless of bhp, I don't think the MK3 Supra's chassis could have been close to that of a Zed. (Having said that, I've never driven a MK3 Supra, it's just that they look to have a similar wheelbase to a Capri, and I know how they handled!)
