Why do you like these cars?

I have to say that I am confused that so many of you seem to enthuse about these cars. My experience is that they are less reliable than even TVR (I never thought I'd say that about anything!), outrageously expensive to repair, and slower than a decent cosworth. So what's the appeal?

Admittedly they do look good. So if any of you just want one to look good on your drive please see my for sale ad in the relavant forum...

By the sounds of it, you didnt do much research before you bought yours and ended up with a bit of a nail MATE. If you had registered before THIS MONTH just to sell your car then you would see that these cars are not actually that expensive to repair because there are many people on here who are more than willing to help and give good advice and cheaper parts/labour purely because they have a love for these cars.

The 300zx actually responds far better to tuning than a cosworth engine and look far better (personnal preference of course!) and are rarer. Cosworths saw 3 or 4 different models over say a 10 year period where as the 300 zx stayed pretty much the same because it is such a good car.

This was the wrong place to come to for slagging the 300 off.

Why sell it??? confused.gif after spending all this money replacing everything on the car to the point that most of the parts are new then surely the car would be very reliable???

I'm not being funny but i think that 99% of the owners on here would agree with me for certain.

Yes i have had problems before and have had my fair share but it does not change my mind about the 300- what do i have to compare it to?? Try an R-33 GTR v-spec-NO CONTEST!! thats just my choice though and im very happy.

Also as a new member on here, it is very doubtful that people would be jumping up to buy ur car as nobody knows you OR your car and you spring on here saying you want to sell up and listing all the stuff you've had to replace on ur car- surely this would cause suspition because by the sounds of it the car has not been looked after properely!

Please dont take this the wrong way, i may sound like im being harsh but im actually a really nice guy!

what the f~#k slower than cosworth 0-60=6.6secs standard. as a 300z is 0-60=5.4 twat.

then you go on about modding them for 400notes cosworth power up to 280bhp which is the starting figure for a z. 400notes would give you around 350 bhp in a z and a top speed over 180mph.

having owned both i know the coo.

Richard is your car a TT?,Slower that a Cossie LMFAO biggrin.gif, you should have seen the look on a guys face that tried to get it on with me in with an escort cossie,he was a little white spec in my rear view mirror, when my twinturbos hit full boost wink.gif.

ZEDSTER. I'm certain that you are a nice guy, as am I. Also I'm sorry you feel that I was slagging you or your taste in cars off. I am however genuinely curious as to what other owners experience of these cars is. I would also say that negative comment should be as informative as positive to a well balenced public forum?

I'll be the first to agree that I may have bought a dog, but have to say that I did check the market, and bought a very plausible car from a very plausible (in hindsight) rogue / conman / thief. If nothing else this should serve as a warning to prospective buyers. I don't know how you can protect yourself against this type of thing though, and if anybody else does please let me know (I'm rather obviously in the car buying market).

Once again I'm sorry if I have caused offense, and am happy for you if you derive as much pleasure from your vehicle as mine has caused me pain.

I dont know what you mean about unreliable.

My Z has 148,000 miles on it and it has the origial turbos, gear box in fact all the engine internals are original.

Looking at the LOADS of history I got with my car, I can see my car has been very well looked after and it has paid off. I have not had to change anything on it, and the history shows that the car has only had the things you expect to do after 10 years. The front shocks have been replaced and the clutch thats the only major thing gone.

As for its slower than a decent Cosworth. Define decent Cosworth. Stock. No chance. Only the Sierra RWD would stand a chance and then only up to 60, then it would get pissed on. Are you talking about a modified Cosworth? Sure, a modified Nova could beat a Z. But how many Cosworths last the miles that mine has with 300bhp? The amount of times I see on Autotrader Cosworths ads that says, 300bhp, only 2000 miles on new engine. In other words, The engine cant take it and has blown. So that gives you another 5000 before it goes again. Spend the same amount of money spent on making the Cosworth decent and you can have a 450bhp Z.

I think its a pitty when people like you get a shit specimen of a Z and you think that they are all shit. If the car was cared for more it wouldnt be in the state it is. I am not saying that you made it that way.

Stuart

Richard I have had my Z for two years, the only thing that ever failed was my clutch packs in my auto box,My car is one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned wink.gif.Maybe because it is a UK spec biggrin.gif standing back now as the touch paper is lit,

And they sound good

But then again my cossie eats them for a snack b4 breakfast.

and thats 4 up without the need to surgically remove my rear seat passengers.

SRRAE,

Coming from the man who wanted nothing other than a sierra cosworth, changed your tune a bit havent you??? hehehe

Anyways

The guy obviously isnt really a fan of the zx I guess, it shouldnt matter if a car is 'unreliable' he obviously just bought it for the specs and the 'image' not the whole sense of ownership. If you truly like any car, no matter what it is, you do not begrudge spending money on it, as you like the car so much. Fast and truly reliable (i.e. purely routine servicing) cars dont exist. I can bet everyone has had some problems, yet dont begrudge fixing them.

anyways, im off now

see yer

ps cosworths suck, and are for 'kevins' wink.gif tongue.gif unless you got a rally prepped one (escort only please no sierra), i mean real rally prepped, not one which 'will go faster'

I am after one because I have a taste for rare and beautiful cars, they are decently priced and leave 99.9% of other vehcles on the road 1/2 a mile behind with an open mouth,

As for expensive to repair, my MG was bought for 3k 1 year ago and i have spent 4k on it (guestimate as I don't want to look at my receipts and add them up)

she's well worth the hassle though :O)

Mike

hmmmmm, seems you Z is truely a dog there man......Cossy smile.gif mt stock 91 Z got 50k on it purrs like a kitten, and runs cossies off the road m8....Imprezas, boxters, z3 2.8 roadsters, all fall in the wake left by the wastegates smile.gif....Cossies cant even be compared to ZX's m8, there all ragged sensless and overworked for the size of the engine..we are talking Quad cams, 24 valves twin turblo V6 cars here, not 4 cylinder fords!!....i owned a skyline, a 3000GTO, and a supra....300 gets em all for looks, style, and drive....trust me..you just bought a rough car...which is poor luck, cause look out your window, and you wont see a car better when its running 100%

I agree, 300's are a real dog shit car! LOL biggrin.gif

However, I have to say that I had the good fortune to look at a lovely Porch 928 S4 the other day! Man they are nice, but the interior??? Errrrr eerrrrrrrrr, FFS when did Skoda have such an influence on the way Porch did their interiors? ROFLMFAO biggrin.gif

I have to say, when my car is running 100% no problems, there is nothing i would rather be driving. I love my car to bits, its part of my family :S

I do agree they are nto cheap to run as i spend a moer of a lot of money on this car all the time. But its my hobbie.

Besides what looks better on the road that doese not cost 80 k more?

I'm 300ZDING across the Universe, only going forward cause i cant find revearse :D

I concurr mate! wink.gif

But isn't this the same flip side argument that we had about Dom in the Soup and rich git in Ferrari from F&F???

I seem to remember most of us slagging the Soup off and raving about the Ferret???

Or am I mistaken???

I dunno if the glove fits etc. springs to mind! LMFAO biggrin.gif

Hi Richard,

The reason I like the 300 so much is quite simple, It is simply a beautiful car to drive.

They can be troublesome at times, but provided they are maintained properly, they are relatively trouble free, in fact all the problems I have encountered with mine seem to be as a result of poor maintanence by the previous owner, and if you think they are expensive to repair, try a porsche!.

I have yet to encounter a single cosworth that could even stay within 10 car lengths of my car, and as regards reliability, a modified cosworth will be changing engines a lot sooner than a modified Z.

I have been lucky enough to have owned/driven some extremely nice cars, and while some were faster, some handled better, and some were more reliable, none can match the Z for all round cabability, and the ability to put a smile on your face. smile.gif

Hope this answers your question!

Brian

Richard, i hope this answers your question mate. These cars are a passion!!!

Ford Cosworths are nice but just not for everybody!

Hope you have luck selling your car and finding a new one.

Best wishes and warmest regards

Zedster. To Quote a fellow user of this Forum - Who Made You God. I sense a little insecurity in your nature - becomes agressive when offered criticism.

To everybody except Zedster - Sorry for the inflamatory header, though you have to admit it acheived it's purpose - I did get input (and insults from the lower IQ ranks).

For your info though the Ford Cosworth was an example - though I found mine to be ultra relaible, and ultra quick on a wet road (4WD is better - sorry), I couldn't live with the inevitable Ford ferous oxide. As for the newer Escorts - I have my ironing done, I don't need to carry an ironing board around on the boot!

Thanks to all the input from everybody else though. My conclusion from your comments is that you love these cars so much that you don't mind spending the money on them. Fair?

Unfortunately for me my race / toy car lives in the garage, when not in use. I was just looking for a reliable runabout prefferably convertable - so it looks like our Zedster was right on at least one point (though I suspect by accident) - I didn't do enough research. If only I'd known about this forum sooner....

I agree, 4wd is better, but not fords 4wd, the sierra is far too stupidly big to use 4wd and handles like shit. That is the preconception people have about sierra cosworths, they handle well, they dont, they give shit grip, wank feedback and are useless, look at their record in rallying, toss. kevins who think their sierra is good are fools, they are too big to be useful as a 'rally car' .I hate sierra cosworths.hehehe really i do. I dont like road going escorts either...I hate fords really, all of their road use cars are rather below par to be honest, hehe, only a group A escort is good, as I mentioned.

4WD are only better for wet and certain cornering.

RWD is better for acceleration.

...........Sureley if you had registered earlier you would have noticed that warren- the guy who said 'who made you god' was almost certainly joking- note-winking face after expression.

We all have a sense of humour on here (well except macca sometimes smile.gif)

I really wish you had found this forum sooner because we, a) would not be having this minor debate/dispute and b) i almost gurantee you would not be selling your car!

Ive have met so many people on here and i cant think of no better forum for any other car.

You're inplication of my apparent low IQ did actually quite upset me. I find it hard to understand quite how you can determine or guage my general inteligence from a post on a forum? Hmmmmm!!! Yes your comments did make me a little, shal we say 'agitated' if that, and i did answer you in a way that many people would probably take to heart.

I dont wish to argue with you but if you had been on here longer you would probably better understand the general workings and goings on here. With the people i know on here we talk on the phone and on msn, we have completely obsurd and ridiculous conversations about nothing particually important and about our cars. They are all good guyz with the same interest as eachother.

I will stop rambling on now, i hope you sell your car as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

The main reason i was a bit wary about you was simply because i was very interested in a BLACK H reg 300 ZX a while ago that i had seen in the autotrader. Upon close AA inspection i would have had to spend over £3000 on the vehicle to return it into good condition mechanically. Guess what..... it appeared on here 2 weeks later for sale under a new member name advertising it as a perfect car apart from one fault-a visible one!

The second thing was just another personal thing which was the cossie item. A burgundy saff cossie ran me off the road once writing off me and my brothers joint owned 18k skyline GTR.

As i said, no hard feelings
