OK, silly question of the day:

Are grooved/slotted brake discs 'handed'?

The discs I've seen have grooves that seem to curve so these would curve the opposite way if put on the other side of the car.

If I buy 2 x discs will they supply a left and a right one?

Graham.

I have a set of the 3G 10 groove ones and they are handed, so I'd guess other brands would be as well

So did I, they are not mark up though, a bit technical for me to get the right way round but I hope I managed it, lol

I'm not actually sure they are.

From what I have read in the past, you can fit them either way round - position the grooves pointing forwards at the top gives more agressive braking but increased pad wear. Whereas pointing rearwards at the top gived quieter braking and prolongs the life of the brake pads.

Then again that could be rubbish...... ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If you think about it going in a clockwise position with pads making contact the gases would be pushed out to the outer diamenter of the rotor letting the gas escape, opposite if the are put on grooves facing forward. The whole point of the grooves is to dispell the gasses.

If you know what I mean. (I really am crap at this :wack: )

This is the way I put mine on drivers side rear, looking rear (phone pic)

Cheers Paul, that's what I'm on about.

Should that disc go on the driver's side or the passenger's side?

ie. Should the grooves 'point' forwards or backwards?

I assume your other disc has the grooves going the other way?

The first pic on the car has been put onto the drivers side rear wheel top slot is like so \

The grooves on the passenger side top slot point this way /

The pic on the floor is also the drivers side disc.

Right, so your discs were handed and you have put them on with the slots leaning to the rear of the car.

Yes, pauls pic of the discs side by side shows the drivers side new disc with the grooves sweeping backwards, so when you fit the passenger side, do the same, but in short grooved are handed.

smithy

vanes or hole line should be fitted so they lean backwards and not forewards. My stillens had an arrow for fitting direction.
