Okay list i am asking cause i have seen so much about brakes and am confused as hell and have already spent too much on brakes that were equally as bad.

The stock 300 brakes are as we all know pants (but good for the era no doubt) mine has the earlier series 1 alloy calipers?

The questions:-

1. Did they change the front calipers on later models for steel?

2. Which skyline has brembo calipers that fit the same fitting and fit under stock wheels?

3. Which skyline discs / calipers will fit under 17's?

4. What is the best set-up under 17's?

r33 skyline calipers are a straight change

r34 ones require mounting holes drilling out, but not really a hard job.

r32 ones are no improvement so don't bother

Not sure if they fit under 17s I've got 18s

350Z are a straight swap, save for the drilling out the mounting holes.

is that cause they use a bolt and nut?

Whilst in US i got a tasty 'big brake' kit which uses spacers to fit stock calipers onto 350Z discs (325mm). Whilst I am sure this will be a good upgrade i want better calipers too! (sick of being out braked by the missus' RX8)

So it seems i could fit 350Z discs and calipers and / or 350Z discs and skyline R33 calipers.

Should fit under 17's ????

thanks

chris

sorry to hijack, but just to confirm, r33 gtr brembo brakes will fit under stock uk twin turbo wheels?

erm, even with R33 gtr brembo brakes? as far as i know, the r33 gtr didnt come with 18's, the r34 did.

You need 18's to fit the Skyline brakes

thought that they fit on original wheels, just needed some parts to (how you say that in english), widen the front wheels from each other ...

cheers,

bs

R33's came with 17", it's what I have. And the 350Z brakes fit in those fine.

ok, so with r33 brembos and/or 350z brembos i will need atleast 17s? will neither of these work with stock uk TT wheels (16s)?

Cool Thread helps a lot. only fly in the ointment is I planned to go 350Z set-up because i figured the calipers i get from a breakers will be that much younger than skyline ones. Then I wanted to get some DBA 350z discs and casually asked they are the same as skyline ones right? same diameter, etc. Yes same diameter but apparently the offsets are different.......So

I have a big brake adapter kit from the US (SPL parts) that allows me to use 350z rotors with my stock calipers.

I want to fit DBA 5000 series 350z discs  and fit 350z brembo calipers  sooooo

lets see if we can make that work.

easy enough, fit the 350z DBA 5000 series discs ( bloody expensive !) with your caliper extensions, when funds allow simply remove caliper extensions and fit the 350z brembo calipers.

So does a standard 350z have Brembo calipers? What would you expect to pay for these?

£500-£800ish for r34 or 350z calipers. R33 are older hence cheaper. Remember you've also got to buy the discs and pads (even if you get ones that are 'ok' chances are they will need replacing very soon after as otherwise the original owner wouldn't be considering upgrading?) discs and pads are about the same again if you do all round, but obviously cheaper if you leave your 300 rears setup (which is same size anyhow).

Hey smithy do you have any of these rotors? I rang wallace performance as they have their ad in jap perfromance listing the 350z fitment but the guy was very vague and said maybe 2 weeks, maybe 4 kind of thing. I am going to the ring and car is currently sat with warped discs and red-stuff pads that burn up after only a mild sprint through the twisties near me. I do not want to be embarrassed at the ring by my missus in her RX8. This is a matter of matrimonial honour.!

I wanted the best discs as i learned the hard way about buying 'cheap'.

Would have got AP lockheed kit but I have 17's (rays Nismo LMGT2's) !!!!!!

Well the 5000 series whilst being very very good, is expensive and so demand especially for 350z fitment is low, If any were to be in stock it would be the 4000 series, I can check for you if you like ? and price would be approx 10% less than Wallace.

cheers
