Do I have a rear subframe bushing problem

and where do I start looking

I have noticed recently that when flooring it and the boost getting more and more that the car seems to twist. It's difficult to describe but as the boost is increasing and I look in my rear view mirror the rear end seems to shift to the left as if the rear axle or something is twisting. Thats in the dry, if I get wheel spin in the wet the car also seems to drift to the left even in a straight line, I don't know if the two are related at all.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and where should I start ?

if you do need new bushes zen garage are around the cheapest to do the job and fitting all new bushes :hyper:

take a look at the subframe sections in the faq that i put up theres quite a few there, also check your inner tie rod from your hicas (if oyu have it) to see if theres any movement, also check the outer bushings. jack up car and grab wheel at 3 and 9 oclock and wiggle , if it moves its the hicas arm. also check the bushing the rod connects to on the arm off the hub.

as for bushings check the bushings the shocks botl through as they tend to go after a period of time, you may find they have collapsed finally. also check camber ,toe etc and get 4 wheel aligned.

i will be re doing my rear and fron set up as soon as my adjustable stuff arrives from the states , when it does a full write up i will do.

Nice one chaps, I had replaced my HICAS arms (albit with good second hand ones, actually it was the whole rear rack + arms) and had 4 wheel alignment done some time back.

what sort of price are we looking for all the bushings

time scale DIY

and price for supply and fit ?

you can buy a complete set very very cheap from coz in the states at concept z performance. i went with him as i was buying a load of other stuff at the time and got a discount, but im sure one of the traders here sells them also.

is caused by the limited slip differential: one side will always get a little bit more torque than the other.

this effect will get worse when the diff.oil has never been replaced and when the diff. overheats (less of a problem on euro/uk spec diffs, because these have extra external cooling)

Thanks lymon, time to change diff oil me thinks, but would I still get this ?

The problem you describe sounds like typical behaviour of a viscous LSD and the behaviour gets worse when the oil gets bad/old/overheated or when the diff. is just worn.

Changing oil never hurts, but if the old oil smells burned or contains black chunks, the diff is worn and needs to be replaced.

PS: only use a GL5 rated diff oil.

Nice one, will check it out, opie recommends Silkolene SYN 5 75w-90

I'm interested to know how much these oil filled rear subframe bushes are as 2 of mine are leaking.
