Mate, they dont need any evidence if you say you did it.

Well i suppose he is at fault for admitting it. :(

I suppose he thought they had evidence so thought pleading guilty would reduce the fine/points

Street racing has a miniumm of 12 month ban now when he thought he would only get points/fine like careless driving.

have to say im with deve8uk on this one.

yes the sentence is harsh, yes the copper sounds like a prick, but he was still in the wrong also.

So if to cars are accelerating together its a race? So if i pull away quite normally and some guy next to me is hammering his 1.1 to keep up its a race?

OMG! Thats harsh. He's going to loose everthing for a 10sec race. The guy before him in court took someone elses bike, had no licence and thus no insurance, and got caught at 120mph and got a 28day ban (hasn't got a licence anyhow) and a couple of hundred quid fine! The guy after him similar. Un-****ing-real You might as well just drive without a licence or insurance anyhow, its much cheaper just a few hundred quid when you get caught.

They can crush your car though........So I think you need the Tax Mot & insurance........ :D & if they want to drive like a prick, admit to racing by post well he won't be on the road for a bit will he. A track day is the place to race not the road if you want to keep your licence. It would not have cost him so much & he would have had more fun.

That's life on our roads these days you have to dive like an old Granny or you get nicked.... ;)

No real sympathy, sorry, but we all know the risks and the dangers of racing, got off lightly by the looks of it! If you are not prepared to lose your licence don't do things that risk it happening!

But on the point of not prosecuting the other driver and it being discrimination, that b*****ks, so if two burglars ran from your house and the police only caught one then they shouldn't do anything, it's unfair because one got away? And the only people who can say they were in your house are the police. Yeah, let them off, only a police officers word!

It does appear the police have AGAIN done nothing wrong, the DRIVER in fact had. Racing has been an offence for a long time and carried a ban.

Its a race for him!

I spose your only defence is that you have a more powerfull car and was pulling away normally with no intention of racing a 1.1!

I would hope the copper who caught you would realise that....i hope so anyway.

the guy's a tw@t for street racing in the first place.

it wasn't about pulling away quicker from the lights in town, he was at an organised illegal race meet - therefore he deserved to get caught, he knew the risks and was stupid enough to ignor them.

Im not defending his actions just bringing up the issue afformentioned up in the forum.

Just for conversation and debate.

I'm not even convinced he was given duff advice, a solicitor would see the evidence, see the proposed offences and on their clients admission / denial suggest what to plead.

Were other people stopped and prosecuted?

Cases won't even get to court unless CPS feel they have something like a 70% chance of finding the defendant guilty!

I wasn't defending street racing either I was simply saying know the law and your rights.

I spose my point im trying to get at is only one moment of madness can cost you the lot.

It will put me off taking off at the lights when someone tries it on again.

It won't put me off blasting at the lights cos I'll stay just within the legal speed limit I do it all the time and it ain't illegal.

However I won't and never have attended any Organized Illegal Road Races.

some of you would be more at home at an advanced drivers meeting on towing caravans than a street race LOL cant understand why you wanted a 3 litre sports car in the first place.

   Nice one

I'm sure I raced that Soarer at Pod a couple of years back, beat it by 3 seconds in my Golf.

If the car can do 150mph on the motorway let alone the streets I'll eat my own arse.

Plus - No video evidence, No recorded speeds, Your having a LAUGH!!!! He must have the worst Lawyer in the country!!!

because i'd rather save the racing for the pod.

anyway, whats the point in driving the 300zx fast? no-one will be able to see it, i don't need to show off the 300bhp when the car looks this good

if you're stupid enough to race someone at 150mph on the main roads then you deserve to be banned. Even on the motorway its silly, i've done that briefly before but that was on a completely empty motorway with noone for miles.

Still if i'd got caught at 135 i'd have been banned.

End of the day my licence is the most important thing i hold, i need it more than anything for my job otherwise its tesco for me :D

When i'm on the motorways i stick the cruise control on at 65 and leave it there, i buzz down country lanes once in a while but only if its safe to do so.

Cann't see you at Tesco some how the uniform ain't very flattering. :D

lol, i'd turn up in a suit. f*ck em :D

It'll get ruined all that food and sharp corner plus mothers and babies with sticky fingers asking for your help to carry the bags to the car.

Firstly can I just Clarify.......The guy mentioned was NOT at an organised Illegal street race.............

He was caught speeding on a Dual carriageway! His sentance was made worse by admiting to racing another vehicle.

Simple fact is....You speed and get caught, it doesn't matter...Everyone knows the risks when they break the limit, so you do so and take your chances. If you get caught doing so, then You have to pay the price.

And if a burglar got caught in my house, I'd be pretty amazed if any Police HAD the time to get round and sort it out, before I either decide to run or fight, one will result in empty house, the other...Probably ME in the dock for defending myself.

Heres how I see it. Imagine you are driving along and as you round this bend some tw@t overtakes you going like a bat out of hell. The police are there waiting to grab someone on this notorious road. The other car speeds off and the old bill pull you up? You had nothing to do with it at all yet you are in the frame for racing him. All because you are in a sports car. I reckon he could have contested the case until he acctually got off? But we all know the law is an ass and basically we are at the mercy of honest/dishonest police?

But to be honest if you are racing and you get caught then you have no one else to blame but yourself.

I totally agree with you...im not a street racer...just trying to help out a mate.

What i cant get how can they prosecute without evidence

Can they prosecute on just 'pleading guilty'

I guess they can

Absolutely: you've just admitted guilt so there's no need for proof (I think).

Thats part of the issue though mate. They wern't done for speeding, they were done because they were side by side and racing/about to race. Its quite obviously at least a semi-organised thing in the area amongst enthusiasts. I'd imagine its being cracked down on by the police and they are making an example. I'm not saying it should be allowed, but there's gaping holes in the law when a guy with no licence, no insurance, someone elses car/bike gets off with a couple hundred quid fine and a slap on the wrist. Where as this lad who is your average joe with a missus and hard worked for job decides to have a race and loses everything. I don't know the area but I'd imagine its out of the way and late at night, not that that is necessarily an excuse.

It just seems harsh that as usual otherwise good citizens can loose everthing whereas people who are blatently illegal have nothing to loose and get away with it. I'm sure it would be different if the racers knocked someone over but there you go. My missus had a crash, the car was wrote off completely. She luckily wasn't badly injured apart from shock. They knew who the person was, told the police where they live, everything. The police did nothing because the other driver had no insurance !! Where as I could go out to a deserted road for a little fun in the zed with some others and loose my licence, my job, feckin everything.
