What turbos are people generally running on here? My car smokes sometimes on idle and I have put it down to the turbo seals. The engine has been rebuilt just before I bought it but the turbos hadnt been touched and it was recomended that they should be reconditioned.

Any info on, where and how much it would be to get them recon'd; or what good replacements would be, would be greatly appreciated. Would people recomend recon'd or new turbo's?

Cheers for any help

hi mate

sound's like the prob i got " Ryan" at ZTECH should be-able to help you !!!!

he is on this site !!!!!

I don't know a lot about recon tubs and so I don't know how much cheaper they work out at. I personally would go for new ones if finances allow. The next decision would be what power do you want. I replaced mine with stage 2 tubs - thrust bearing ones. I do recommend finding a specialist though. There seems quite a few options.

Try David (RicerocketUk) he can get them reconditioned - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=44602

My Zed has been smoking on idle for a year and a half now and is fine so I wouldn't really worry about it ;)

The cheaper route may be to replace PCV first, this can reduce smoke on idle.

Your far better of taking the car to C & S Woods at Astley Near Manchester as he's closest to you. Though I know he is snowed under for the next 4 weeks. He'll be able to tell you what wrong before you start throwing money around. That way you spend it on whats needed and not what you think might be needed.

As above mate, turbo seals are more likely to smoke on putting your foot down. Smoke at idle is very likely to be the PCV valves

Do a search as they are always coming up on here. They are part of the breather system, they get clogged up and stick. They are small brass looking valves under the plenum on either side with hoses that go towards the back of the engine. They are a bit of a bugger to get to but arn't that expensive £60 I think for a set of two, you'll probably need the pipes as well as they'll be brittle and crack. You can test your current ones by running the engine and pull off the pipe. If you put your finger on it you'll get a vacuum suck on your finger if its working. Best to change them before spending money on turbos etc.

PCV valves are the first route to go down, but smoking at idle can also be the turbos as well.

sounds like seals to me ouh ouh ouh ouh

Also one possability is a cloged/dirty injector causing a bad spray pattern washing oil from bore and burning off, run some injector cleaner through it, cheap things first eh.

i though injector cleaner was bad for the z injectors. or is that just the pre 95's?

As far as i'm aware injector cleaner is ok to use once in a while, although other additives like slick 50 for the oil is a no no.

if they are the turbo's i'm getting rid of my car in parts. i replaced one turbo and the other is clean any question email: fjz6759@yahoo.com
