As many of you may know, my bro-in-law has a black UK auto which I've been to a couple of meets in. The car has been off the road SORNed for a while and has recently been started up again.

Problem is there is now zero drive from the auto box in drive, reverse, 1st or 2nd gears :( The car was previously driving well and had no problems at all. We have followed the auto box self diagnostics but cannot get any flashing lights from the diag :(

Have checked the ATF fluid (hot and cold) and all looks good here as well.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what we might try next?

Run the engine until its all warms up, and then gently move the stick through the gears, see if it free's up.

If the car was driving OK before being parked up, and it has'nt lost any fluid, something's just stuck, and needs freeing up.

Have given it a go but no joy :( With engine running and handbrake on, there is no change in engine note or forward/backward momentum. Almost seems like something has become disconnected...

...sounds like you need to get underneath it and check the electrical connections to the box. Alternatively is there a major fuse or solenoid switch that controls/protects the box? ...worth checking.

Good luck

Jack

Blocked fluid strainer or fluid pump.

Finally got round to looking at this. Have dropped the ATF sump and removed the strainer. This is what is inside :(

Should the gauze come out completely? I've gathered from other posts that it should do. Also, there didn't seem to be any gasket around the ATF tray and I can't find the magnet that's supposed to be in there either :(

Any opinions appreciated!

Clutch fibre, the strainer been blocked will cause lack of fluid pressure and no drive, equally the clutch fibre suggests other problems, it is feasable to clean the stariner flush and replace the fluid and you may get another 3 or 4 moths use out of the box, or on the other hand you will not, either way it is worth a go.
