Hi all - well its my first post..

dont have a Z yet been looking again today!

Have MK2 MR2 N/A at the mo, and finally decided after loads of yes and no(ing) with myself that i needed a Z in my life!

Id rather a Turbo but insurnce is a tad pricey - although not out of price range.

Question is i suppose, is the N/A Z, gonna be a lot quicker than my MR2 (175bhp N/a) anyone know? Anyone had any experience with both of these cars?

What is the standard BHP on a Z N/A?

Sorry, not that much knowledge about Z's apart that i want one!

Thanks in advance..

Ed

You will probably find a UK TT cheaper to insure than a Import NA (All NA's are imports)

NA - 220bhp , 0-60 (6.5 - 7.0secs avg) , 145mph . 1/4 mile in low to mid 15 secs

No idea how that compares to the Mr2.

For reference

TT - 280hp - 0-60 5.5 secs , 175mph, 1/4 mile in 14.0 secs(13.8 - 14.2 avg)

N/A Zed will eat your MR2 piss easy! End of!

Drive them and see if it gives you power you want. If not then go TT

Welcome mate

ok cheers chaps, so (and sprry fpr my total lack of knowlege) what is the UK TT called? Is the Fairlady an Import or UK? Thanks

UK is just 300ZX Twin Turbo. All JDM spec cars are badged as fairlady. None of the TT models are badged as such. So unless you're round the front and can see the IC slats, it looks the same asn an NA.

ok - just realised my spelling in my last post!! just turned the light on so i can see the keyboard!!

Another question - i do want a T-bar, i take it the Uk cars came with T-tops too?

Heard some rumors about 89-90 cars having dodgy gear boxes too - should i stay away?

N/A stock 225ish bhp, heavier than the Mr2 but still a bit quicker.

Important thing to consider here is... hundreds of MR2's about (common muck "no offence meant"), how many Z's do you see a week, month? the road presence of the Z, this place says it all TT or NA... you know it makes sence!!

I know what you mean - Mr2's are quite common now - nevr see a Zed though...just checked and the insurance is cheaper than an N/A Import! So it look like its going to be a Turbo anyway!

Anyone have any problems with the size of the car?

The UK spec ZX boot badging says "Nissan" on the left and "Twin Turbo" on the right.

Otherwise what Si said......

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Although the car is quite big compared to an Mr2, it handles very well. Especially compared to other cars of similar size and power (gto, supra). Where abouts do you live? maybe someone could show you their Zed. Welcome to the forum. Dave

 im sure if you really are interested in one people who are close to you could take you for a test drive and also point out what to look for when buying if possible buy 1 thats for sale on here at least you will get some history on the motor oh and welcome to the Madhouse

yes ditto tell us what area you live and im sure someone will show you there zed or mine if you live near bye, ,,, as long as you dont start shouting 20 seconds to comply,, ,will be glad to help welcome to the club

Well thanks for all of your replies chaps , im in Great Barr - North Birmingham, have never seen a Zed round here to be honest!

Thanks Tony but im looking for a UK car for insurance reasons..

only say 20 secs to comply when its almost closing time and im waiting at the bar for a drink paul!

Cheers Chaps.

Insurance reasons ?? I think you will find that the Jap spec can be insured for the same as UK models !!

You will need to shop around and look at some of the specialist insurance companys

Try a search on this Forum its been debated endlesly :headvswal

Good luck anyway

You'll have a job finding a UK spec one mate, plus you've got rust issues on cars that originate here.

Sorry to say it, but if you are basing a purchase on insurance costs then maybe this isnt the car for you? Owning a zed the last of your worries should be the insurance cost! You should be a lot more concerned about rust, autobox/engine/turbo failure, which will all cost a great deal more than the insurance to sort out ;)

Not basing it on insurance costs but it is a factor.

Did a quote on line and found the UK spec quote £600 cheaper!

But perhaps i will find an insurance company to quote cheaper on an import..

so what should i be looking for when im looking for one - like how do i know if the Gearbox etc is any good - is there a buying guide on this site ? cant find one..?

Ta

I think that you'll find that the NA's that were for sale in America were rated at 220bhp and that the ones sold in Japan were rated at 230bhp - as mentioned in the engine specs of Brian Long's recent book on the 300 and the 350Z.

Good luck

Jack
