Hi guys does anyone know where the neutral switch pin is on my ECU as im doing a Auto Manual conversion.

And do i just cut the wire and ground it?

Thanks

Steve.

When we converted my car the ECU was not touched. There is a switch attached to the gearlever which requires restraining in the 'in' position with a tyrap. Apart from that, the only wiring mod was the reverse lights that will need to be sorted from the loom on the lefthand under the bonnet which goes down under to the gearbox. When I stsrt up, I do momentarily get the power light on the dash flicker on for 10 seconds or so, and then stays off.

pin 44 on the ECU needs to be grounded or the base timing will be out +10 BTDC at idle.

(which is confusing if you need to set base timing..unless you are aware of this issue and know the timing will be 25BTDC at idle when this pin is not grounded)

Just wondering, would this also be the case if you fitted an ECU from an auto to a manual? I have an auto ECU in my manual car (though it has been socketed and a manual JWT chip fitted)?

This shouldn't matter, since the PN switch is still connected.

Problems occurs when converting gearboxes (AT to MT), since you'll have to rewire the PN switch to the ECU

when grounded, timing should be 15 BTDC at idle and engine fully warmed up.

I didn't do anything with the neutral switch, but she was running really poorly, until i asked on here, didn't realise the timing was out by 10 degrees! set it to 15 at idle and fully warmed up, and hey presto, rocket!

which wire do you hook the neutral switch to?

You need to wire one side of the switch to earth and the other to pin 44 on the ecu.

hi thanks for that i grounded that wire and neutral is on and back to 15 timing but i need it wired to a switch so its not on all the time is that correct? could i just wire to clutch??

Wire it to the gearboxes neutral switch as it should be.This way the car knows your in gear and starts to advance the timing.Grounding it will just cause the ecu to think your in neutral all the time.

Old thread I know. But can you use the original auto neutral switch plug by the drivers headlight to do the same job. Think it's a 6 pin connector but only 4 wire come out. Assuming the brown wire goes to the auto neutral switch?? I have modified an auto harness to use the oem plugs and woukd prefer it to be plug and play...... the brown wire goes to a grey plug on the autobox. If I cut off the plug and solder the black neutral plug to it will that work??

The pin 44 wire goes via the Auto ecu where it becomes pin 13 from memory, check the pin out. It will be easier to run a cable from ecu 44 to the switch and then delete the starter relay, which is what's in the wing. If I see you Saturday il show you. Have you tested the neutral switch yet?

I have deleted the starter relay. Running a cable from that to the black switch on the clutch. So clutch down it will start.

Winner. Just go from 44 is less wiring. You can drop it through the gaitor without worrying about hitting the exhaust. Easy.

What I'm saying is can I connect the manual neutral switch to the loom where the auto inhibitor switch was connected. Isn't that effectively the neutral switch wire? Instead of running another wire to pin 44

Follow up on this. I can get continuity from the switch to the front connector in the drivers side front wing.. when testing continuity from the ecu pin 44 engine ecu or pin 13 (auto ecu)to the connector at the engine fusebox I get continuity but no continuity between the two front connectors..... I really want to use the existing wiring but don't understand why the continuity terminates between these two connectors brown and blue....? According to the eccs wiring diagram it should be connected.
