I took my expansion tank off today to see why I was losing water from my radiator so much, It was full to the top with water way past the min and max marks on it, I think the main reason for this is my radiator cap is the original 92 one, which seems a right pain to take off, so I presume its not releasing the pressure properly. Would this cause the expansion tank to over fill and release water?? I have sorted a cap now. Thanks in advance. ;)

yes a poor sealing rad cap can cause this or if someone has deliberatly topped it up,remove the excess water with sucker or just drain the expansion bottle so the correct amount is in there

LOL - no I meant that the CC is black! I'll dig up a picture in a mo...

*EDIT* FFS - the site hosting it is down - but it typically has 4 hoses connecting into the top of the CC ;)

WTF is the Carbon Canister for?? :x:

Fumes from the gas tank are sealed from the atmosphere by the gas cap at the fuel filler, and stored in a carbon canister (CC) for reburning when the engine is running. The CC, gas cap, lines and controls are sometimes collectively referred to as the EVAP (evaporative) system. A car’s EVAP system is passive. The gas fumes are trapped in the carbon canister while the car is at rest, then purged back into the intake system using vacuum pressure when the car is running.

Bin it ;)
