went to take the z to work this morning and she would not start .. alarm off imobiliser off all lights came up on dash okay but all i got was a nasty repeating clunking sound as i turned the ignition over .. is it a dead battery ? or am i maybe looking at something more sinister .. any bright ideas what to look at first ..

if it is clunking, it may well be a discharged battery, having enough power to throw thge starter clutch but not spin the motor over. Give it a charge and see.

I had this some time ago - wasn't the battery but the leads connecting to the starter solenoid (covered in oil). So if a charged battery doesn't help, try to tighten up the leads to the starter (from underneath) and this might help......
