Whoa hold on a sec, I'm a muslim, a practising one at that and this is the first I have heard of the christmas lights stuff. It's so ridiculous its laughable, as if anyone would be stupid enough to say you can't have christmas lights in this country. And if they did i'd tell them to fook off myself. Sounds more like good old opportunistic journalism to me -mountain out of a mole hill!

yep media scrutanise religions and as said make a mountain out of a molehill,as said there are still small groups wether it be brits, muslims there will always be a small minded group who vote against, what most people want-this is why there is war :(

i love xmas maybe its because im luckily to have children, and smile when there happy, nice break, beer, relax and be happy-surely thats what lifes about, bah humbug to people who dislike xmas sod ya miserable fookers

Christmas is a load of crap anyway.

not when you have kids ;)

not when you have kids ;)

Haven't got any kids of my own but Christmas is a time for children... The look on there faces when the open there presents = priceless!!!! ;)

too many times in my area you can be walking towards ethnic peopel and they start jabbering in there own language as soon as they think you can hear them to me that is ignorant and down right rude if you can speak english before i approach why not when i walk past

Probably about the same amount as Brits living in Spain, Greece, Cyprus etc who walk around all day talking English, eating their Full English Breakfasts whilst reading The Sun and watching Sky TV on satellite to keep up wth the news and sport back home!!!!

why do you find that ignorant, and just because (EG) two complete strangers walk past you talking in a different language you assume they are saying something towards you. i think you may have some kind of psycological issue, because when i walk past people i dont give a shite wot language their speaking no matter were their from.

As I've said some time ago, I'm not a Christian (although my family are non-practicing C of E) nor do I follow any of the other structured religions. My own beliefs are my own business.

However I do celebrate at Christmas although it has a different meaning for me. I love the time of year, the atmosphere anticipation, festivities and above all the effect it has on people as a whole. In general everyone is in a joyous mood and full of love for their fellow humans - it brings out the best in human nature. That in my book makes it worthy of celebration.

Although I can understand where FunkySi is coming from - Christmas day itself can be an anticlimax.

This is a predominantly Christain country so EVERY follower of EVERY other faith must respect the view of the majority at this time of year, just like the majority of the population respect and tolerate their festivals.

we dress spruce trees and put up festive lights as part of our religious culture.

Really this notion was only intorduced to the UK as part of Christmas by the Victorians - the origins are, like so many so-called Christain festivals, Pagan. The tree and lights were originally in celebration of the winter solstice.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As are most of the ceramonial aspects of the Church service, but I will no boar you with the why's and wherefores. I think your intelegent enough to none the less accept that these practices have been part of the british Christian culture for 200 years and therefore what I said was correct.

Well said, and Mark your comments are a perfect example of what they want to acheive

Yas if you think that I'm being racist then I assure you I'm not. If you think that this artical is the basis for me starting to form my opinions, let me assure you it is not.

Over the last 34 years since finishing colledge I've traveled around the world, worked for small independant and large multi national firms + run my own for 10 years. My opinions are all based on personally encountered facts and experience. I think you can see from this forum that many people here have extreme views and this is just a microcosum of society.

Honestly 15 years ago a similar slice of society would not have produced views like today and what I'm saying, because you seem to misunderstand, is that I'm so sick of other social groups forcing laws through to impindge on my freedoms. So are they.

There is also a growing culture of distrust between various comunity's and unless people from what ever cuture or can speek openly to each other about what they think and feel, then that distrust turns to emnity. I'm worried that the horse has bolted and the door can only close on an empty stable.

I hope not.

i have no psycological problem but when i can hear them speaking english then hide there conversation by changing language that is down right feckin rude why do it unes you have something to hide

Agree with you totally there Mark - 200 years and then some! As the ceremonial practices of most other religions have roots in Pagan rituals too.

In fact it's really quite refreshing to discuss this with a Christian who will openly accept it is true! ;)

before i start im not racist

simple solution send them all back where they originated from and lets make this great britain again we should have listened to mr powell all those years ago peterborough used to be a great city now there is about 60% where you just dont go because the muslim/hindu/seikh communties are nothing but trouble makers dont get me wrong i have some very good ethnic friends

I'm on your side there, I'm Not a racist eighter, but I just don't think they fit in "our" culture.

Christmas is a load of crap anyway.

LOL :D

Yep last few I've had just make you realise how bad things really are! But...saying that...hopefully this year will be a good one. ;)

Yas if you think that I'm being racist then I assure you I'm not.

Not at all bud, what I meant is these kind of stories are designed to piss people off and cause the kind of reaction it has on here. I was just using you as an example to what they want to acheive, BS stories like this just create animosity between people who would otherwise have no bad feeling towards eachother.

People think marketing is a new thing.

If a product is good it will out last the marketing. However if its marketed wrongly or inapropriately it'll atract the wrong people. + there is no use trying to sell Radios and TV's to people who carn't pick up the signal or don't want to.

My friend Abdul Says I have a bad mouth, but a good heart.

My wife says I'm an ignorant Yorkshire man, but she still loves me.

I say they are both a good judge of people.

I love christmass, and yes i go to church and believe in god, nothing wrong with it IMO, especialy in the fooked up world we live in, it may just be a bunch of stories, but the bases of it is to be a good person, and that can only be good surely? im 23 and in the air force and lead a normal life... been to Iraq etc and most people were happy for us to be there, despite the media bull-crap, this is just another example of the media wanting to sell papers and piss people off

It griped my shit when i was in Basra and Afgan and the people where happy for us to be there, then you read the papers or see sky news and they are reporting that the people of Iraq hate our gutts, they are only focusing on the bits that are bad.... why? because it sells.

Its a small amount of people messing it up for everyone else, (these people should be thrown out) same with everything. i can think of loads of stories that focus on 1 group of people and bring every1 else in that bracket down...

Football hooligans

Youthes

Muslims

Car driver

Motorbike riders

the list goes on... and on.....

I love Great Brittan and christmas, both are ace! but dont become haters of other people just because of "stories" you hear because thats all they are... stories, probably a long way off from the truth, i have a few muslim friends and it pisses them off just as much as it does me.
