Buggeration.

I'm skint and have to get the geometry of the car looked at.

 

The front 2 wheels have both worn on the inside edge only and the steering wheel is off centre and needs a bit of force to keep it straight.....So I phone Nissan (Middlehurst) 'Yes we do that - £112.50 plus vat. Cough splutter! Any adjustments are extra too...Probly come near £200 mark!!!!

 

SO I phone a few places to check further and low and behold a Vauxhall garage in St.Helens do the whole thing including vat and all adjustments for £90 'Its about 2 hours work you see' they apologised

 

Its a sad day when I take my car to Vauxhall instead of Nissan....ha ha ha HA!

 

Anyhow, before I do that I'm getting it checked for free just in case its any of the suspension sagging and causing the ride height to go lower. It'd better not be the bloody tension rods coz they where done (no, thats I was done) 2 years ago from a Nissan dealer coz it was failing its MOT. I cant afford to keep going through tyres at this rate!

Don't take it to Lookers Vauxhall (I presume that's where you mean in St Helens) for a four wheel alignment mate! They don't understand rear wheel steer etc.

 

Also, they once did a four wheel geometry check on a Cavalier of mine and diagnosed some new suspension components needed coz the readings were miles out. Turns out I had a bent wheel and they measured the geometry by clamping the stuff to the wheel. Halfords diagnosed the wheel by lifting it up on a ramp and showing me how much it wobbled! Saved myself a lot of money by going for a second opinion.

 

I know there are some dodgy opinions of Middlehurst on here, many from myself. However, for a job like this they're the people who have the equipment.

So you reckon Halfords are worth a look?

 

I reeeeely dont wanna go to Middlehursts - Never had a gripe in the past as such, but they dont do you any favours. I asked them to LOOK at my settring as it was stiff intermittantly, they couldnt find anything wrong and charged me £50 for he priviledge.

Why not try micheldever tyres, they are very good and sorted mine out. Nice job they did aswell. and it was about 40 squid i think.

No Halfords can't do it. It's just that they had the common sense to jack it up and spin the wheels. I'd banged one against a kirb quite hard you see and the car was driving funny (oddly enough). Lookers diagnosed a bent stub axle when in actual fact it was the wheel that was bent.

Guys may I make another suggestion?

 

Honda Main Dealers should be able to do what you want as the Preludes have 4ws going back donkeys years in fact they probably started it FFS!!!

 

Honda dealers are pretty good on the whole, however they may be expensive as I know my Bros Prelude was not cheap on parts.

 

But who knows, tell 'em how much Nelson want and they may do you a deal just for the business.

Hey up!!! Middlehurst upto their old tricks eh? Just coz they are the only official Skylark dealer in the UK they obviously think they can charge Sky Rocket prices!

 

 

 

I'm gonna phone a few Nissan places up and check prices - Timmy - Southport Nissan pointed me to a Honda garage in Liverpool

 

I'll let you know how I get on.

 

Is it worth checking the suspension first for sagging before having any alignment work done?

Well - Nissan GB say the dealer can charge whatever they like - there isnt a base price or anything like that....Typical.

 

I might phone them up again and barter.
