When people say bird brain it means that they are comparing you with a bird that has very little brain, well I don't suppose alot of you know but this year has been a real bad year for sea birds breeding as there is a big shortage of sand eels

So why is it that the human being the most intelligent mammal on the planet continues to reproduce when there is no food to feed the young?

most animals fertility is effected by many situations, whether it is physicaly being able to breed or lacking the desire due to the non release of various hormones. this is common in all animals, except mammals, although we think of birds as a modern animal, they are in many peoples opinon, one up from a dinosaur. they follow many of the trates of reptiles including breeding stratergy. at the end of the day you can not get past your nature. as to 1 or two animals have sex for pleasure. this is false as most social mammals use it as a form of communication, usually for dominance, such as wolf packs, pride of lions, and a pod of whales. some use it as a greeting. the best example is lowland marsh chimps (monobo).

in the future will our situation have to addressed, yes steps will have to be put into place to cull the species as medical research advances, and disease becomes a thing of the past. soon it will be welcome to a brave new world

Probably most of these kids were conceived a good while ago, maybe they think things will get better or hope the bad times end soon.

First of all I dont deny anyone having children so get your head right out of your arse!

People in this country with no jobs and no money reproduce because Stupid Mr Blair makes sure that if you want to be a lazy ****then we will pay for every thing and help you to smoke and drink free of charge.

If there is no food to eat then why reproduce?

THATS THE REASON WHY

THERES NO FOOD TO EAT

SO WE HAVE A BLOODY GOOD SHAG INSTEAD :)

weaker cultures living in different environments have been dying out for thousands of years not just since Bob Geldof started banging on about it...its called nature. The only difference is certain countries dragged themselves out of the mud huts and built roads, schools hospitals and everything else we take for granted while others continued to sit in their mud huts and eat leaves. It is not our responsibility to drag these people into the modern world. If people were not clouded by sympathy they would see this. It may be sad but its certainly true.

Big question here is. Why is there a shortage of sand eels ??

Just thought I`d ask !

The North Sea is getting warmer,so the plankton that the sand eels feed on is moving to colder waters.

Aahh!

Read an article in Readers Digest of all things, that says if things go the way they are, the sea will be warm enough for sharks to be common occurence in the waters arond the coast of Britian !

Dont mean the common Dogfish here, talking about Grey or Bull shark.

Maybe evem the Mako in a few years further on.

Imagine standing on the pier at Blackpool and seing a fin cut through the water !!

Alan......

Mind you,

Even though your average "Carcharodon Carcharias" can smell 1 pt of blood from a mile away, she wouldnt see through the s**t in the water, at Blackpool to bite you.

:x: :x:

Alan......

The average temperature where I live should be about 5 degrees Celsius at this time of the year, now it is 10+ degrees...

its ok, i have a lovely "bonni wee las" to keep me warm!

Glad you are learning already laddie !! :)

Alan......

Ah.. now.. I did three years on this at college.

You have to think of the genes which programme the body as the basic 'replicator' not the living thing itself. Genes are concerned about how many copies of themselves will exist in the next generation and nothing else. In fact, that's not really true, it's just those which are most common in the next generation tend to spread through the population.

Birds will slow down reproducing when they reach a point where their genes realise they will be more numerously represented in the next generation with a lower reproduction rate than a high one. Or because their bodies hit physical barriers which prevent them reproducing (the initial calorific 'investment' of making a birds egg is far higher than a human one).

Birds have a might faster reporoductive rate than humans so these strategies will have evolved in their gene pools.

Humans have no such checks, except if they really are ill / malnourished enough they don't want to shag so that reduces the birth rate.

That's my guess anyway. It's all in Richard Dawkins book, 'The Selfish Gene'. Probably.

:duffer: :duffer:

This subject cracks me up: We spent millions about 20 yrs ago feeding starving children, they got fed , healthy and now 2 decades on we have to feed even more.lol. They shouldnt send rice to these countries, they should send bromide FFS. The truth is that in some cultures to have many children is to be seen to be rich, they realise that they will lose a percentage throught famine so try to breed out the risk by having more. There is your "selfish gene". The same one that allows baby girls to be left in a dying room because when they limited Chinese families to one child, rather than having a girl who will not earn as much and will cost a dowry, they want a boy who will work and bring in a dowry when wed = allow the girl child to die alone in a cold room, not even have the decency to slot the poor little bugger.

People who talk about this situation as if every person in the world has western moral values just show themselves for niave muppets who should stick to reading the guardian.

And who the fook said having kids was a basic right? Bringing children into this world to starve to death is not a human right, its barely fooking human- tantamount to abuse.

The hunger goes on in places like Africa and still they breed like single cell organisms. So as Macca pointed out...Who is the more intelligent?

I think that this is more due to tradition / lack of education / lack of contraception more than lack of intelligence.

The questions is, do they actually know where babies come from and how they are made? Do they actually know what contraception is, where to get it and how to use it, and can they afford it.

It's like asking you how the intrickle parts of a space shuttle's electronics work, if you dont know is it because you are unintelligent or uninformed?

But i agree something needs to be done, because resources are not evenly spread and are being abused! Instead of sending money to 3rd world countries, why doesnt the goventment FORCE food manufacturers to bring the use by date on food forward a day on any product that it is reasonable? And then pay trade price for food which has passed this date (but is still perfectly usable) and ship it out to these poorer starving countries. This will feed the people AND prevent the governments of these countries squandering all the aid money on palaces and bentleys.

Apologies for spelling!

My two pence worth!

And spare children make a cheap alternative to turkey at Christmas.
