They need to know a few things that some of you more teccy owners may know the answer to:

1) I have told them I want to go to either a 3.1/3.2, what oversized pistons and rings would I need? Sorry if this is a dumb arse question!!

2) What is the standard crank and bore size of the zeds block?

Thanks again for your help.

Oh by the way, anyone wishing to do this themselves, try this company 'The Engine Centre' 01789 773333, very nice chap there called David, and very good rates too!! ;) :hyper: :duffer:

I have 88mm wiseco I think that will give you 3.1 and 89mm a 3.2 although the bigger you go I was told there is a chance of the side wall breaking through into the water channels.

I think 87mm is standard so most go for a 87.5mm oversize.

Oh and with 89mm up you will need bigger headgaskets to account for it

Thanks for the info guys, very useful..... ;)

3.1 I think it is to be safe...although they need to measure the bores first to check its not already been done....

ive also got 88mm wiseco pistons in my z, the 88mm pistons out to be 3.05Ltr and the 89mm ones 3.1Ltr ;)

What boost are you weisco guys running? I cant wait to get over 20psi!!!

make sure they use a torqueplate when boring/honing the cylinders !!

daft question but here it gos... is there really that much to be gained by boaring out the engine by .05 to .1 of a litre......? i understand the advantages of stronger internals and more boost, but for the cash to you really get that much more performance...? (im sure this is a stuipid question once answered but im interested to know...)

Geeky

At this moment in time I cant answer that question, but any extra fuel/air mix has got to produce more power as long as its all configured properly.

And the cost is tiny to get it bored out, surprisingly tiny. I wouldnt have gone for this if I hadn't bore-washed my engine, but as I have, why the hell not? ;)

Thanks Eric, I have heard of FLEX on the bottom end when the heads are bolted back on, hence the torque plate. I am going to print off the JWT spec that AndrweG supplied me with to make sure that they know what the score is.

Cheers.

Personally I would not recommend going too far overboring, I think it throws the engine out of spec too much, for reliability issues!

Thanks Mark, reliability wise, I dont think my car ever has been! :D

It'll get there...... :)

I agree, dont just bore it that big for the sake of being able to say its a 3.2 or 3.1 litre.

The main reason I decided to have my block rebored was to accept 0.50mm oversize forged pistons. I wasn't particulary bothered about gaining any extra cylinder cc so reason for reboring really comes down to fitting stronger pistons for high boost application. Most forged pistons for the Z are supplied from size 87.5mm to 89mm.

If you want extra cc whilst maintaining a strong mechanical setup then a stroker kit is the way to go.

I had bore damage so had to goto 88mm to get rid of it

Steve, I am intrigued, whats the stroker kit?

JD, just read through your car spec, all I can say is

Have you had it RR'd?

No having trouble finding some one to map it mate :(

JD......have you spoken to him?

Has anyone looked at offset grinding the crank pins on a VG30 to stroke it? Saves the extortionate cost of a new crank, and if you're having forged rods anyway then it wouldn't cost much to have the size of the big end reduced.

What sort of offset would be needed to gain like 100ccs though? Actually I'm sure I could work it out lol but can't be arsed :p Reckon it'd be a few mm though wouldn't it?

I can do it if you want. Drop me a line.

Hi John

The reason for my bore-washing is down to me replacing the recircs and also the chip, I should have got in touch sooner!! (not a complaint mate, I'm happy to buld a better engine! :D ) But I will need you map it all up for me when its done if thats OK?

It wont be till the new year at least, prob Jan/feb time....

If you dont mind, I wouldnt mind a quick chat this week about the work I will be doing on my spare engine, you still got the same number?
