Fuel Consumption

I knew the mpg wouldn't be great on a Z when I bought it but I can only get about 18mpg even when on long journeys.

What kind of mpg are you guys getting?

I only really use the car to go to work & back (4 miles each way) about 120 miles a week. Even when I resist booting it I still only manage about 17mpg.

Is this normal or is somthing a bit dodgy?

Pity really because in my old FTO I could redline it in every gear & it would still do about 25mpg.

Having to restrain myself in the Z as every time I put my foot down I remember how much it is costing me when the Turbos kick in.

Still, the Z is loads more fun & a shit load faster, arse end gets a bit slidey in this weather though, don't it?

oh joy!!!!

what pleasures i have to look forward to when geting my z.never mind you only live once and you can't take it with you when you are dead can you! any way all this talk about mpg is makeing me feel old so all i can say is keep putting the jungle juice in and get the joy out!

I get 240 miles on a full tank if I drive steady on a run,But when my boost is +15 then I may get as low as 170 miles per tank frown.gif.

N E body with a petrol smell when starting from real cold like now should note that it takes about half a tea cup of petrol to make enough smell to really notice inside the car!

Find it! The leaks on Z's are hard to find but you'll be amazed when you do. Also use a torch - not the lighted kind!

Take a look under if you cant see it.

- looking forward to gettin more than 200 miles per fill up. Gob smacked that anyone gets over 350 miles in a TT

Seriously thinkin about a JWT chip if it gives more mpg and extra oomph.

This thread should be shown to all prospective Zed buyers!

If they still come back and buy a Zed then fair play to em smile.gif, coz if ones things as certain as death and taxes, it's that Zeds aint NEVER gonna be economical!

That's over 10,000 mls of all types of driving.

I think what you must remember is that the FTO is a totally different beast, 1800 or 2000cc and only 4cyl, and front wheel drive.

Four cylinders????

But sureley the 2.0 V6 mivec model is a SIX CYLINDER engine?? Since u never actualy knew which one he had how can u comment?

well in TT TIMS DEFENCE im sure we all get the point he was trying to make.

And the top of the thread is to do with fuel economy, so what was the point of you replying to tttims thread is it has nothing to do with the post?????

Another thing i havent noticed much difference between fuel economy on my car regardless fo how much boost im running????????? it seems to make no difference to how i drive my car i get the same economy.

I think my Z is very cheap to run, Work pays all my juice bills!!

Shame they wont fork out for repairs though!

PS How does Timmy know how much he gets to the tank. I didnt think his car was on the road long enough to find out?

Only kidding mate

300zxTT I got the braided fuel lines from Hose Direct tel 01302711020.Every single fuel line under the hood cost me around £16,but it is the chrome ends that kill the price around £4 each frown.gifBut you can use plain clips if you want,Just measure the lines you want and ask for 8mm bore.

Normally I get between 340 and 360 from a tank, where it costs me 62.9p per litre to fill up. Which is nice. biggrin.gif

I have had her as low as 290 though from 1 tank, but um...speed limits weren't a feature of the day that time... biggrin.gif

That seems a lot to me, I guess you must have light feet, long journeys, warm weather and no mods wink.gif

Being a bit of a saddo I have kept a speadsheet of the fuel consumption since I bought the car over three years ago. Enjoy ...

Fuel Consumption

So assuming this has displayed correctly, you should be able to see the total cost of fuel (!), the mpg tank by tank, the overall average mpg and the theoretical maximum mileage per tank with data covering around 25,000 miles. The car is an auto, so that should be marginally less efficient (~3-5% ??) than a manual.

Ajay is your car speedo in mph or kph? 340-360 miles from a tank? WTF!you must hold the Z record for that biggrin.gif.

Ajay's car is a UK car, so mph...

So is mine, but that millage he gets FFS! is it a DIESEL? LOL

In one respect mileage from a tank full is irrelevant.

We are not talking about a full tank because nobody drives until they run out, therefore the miles per tank would vary according to how low you are prepared to let your tank go.

Based on most drivers claiming to get about 250 from a tank (myself included) averaging say 19 mpg, then those guys getting 350 would be returning about 26-27mpg. That could be possible on moderate motorway driving. Bilky with your 450-500 would be averaging pro-rata 38MPG.

The tank capacity is 15.8 Imperial Gallons or 72 litres. A quick calculation shows that the MINIMUM mpg at 450 miles is 28.48, if every last drop of that 15.8 Gallons were used! Possible, but probable??

The only real test is to fill the tank, set your trip meter, use most of the fuel, refill the tank, note the total fuel to fill now. Convert litres to gallons by multiplying the total litres by 0.22.

Divide your total miles by the gallons used and ...voila you have your MPG.

I used to get about 19mpg semi rural driving when the car was standard. Now I get between 21-23 with Stage three mods.

On a motorway run I only get about 18mpg because I tend to do about 100mph.

Also I find that you get about 10-15% more mpg with Super as it produces more Kilowatt energy than regular unleaded.

It would be interesting to see everybody's results when tested in this way.

Grant

That is essentially what my speadsheet does. I can post an empty one if anyone is interested, although it's hardly rocket science ....

I have never got this car to 72 litres, so are you sure about that grant?

The most i get is about 60 into my tank and i usually drive my tank to almost empty.well ive never seen the light come on but the needle certainly cant go lower. And i get on the motorway about 320-340 miles no probs.

so mine works out to roughly 23 miles to the gallon. But then i do drive like a girl to be honest.(no offence to the girls on the forum aka ajay, diane, mac wink.gif)

You can run it until the needle is below the empty mark, then the light comes on, then you can do another 20 miles or so, then you fill it up and it only takes about 62 litres. I overdid it and got nearly 68 litres in once, but it was beginning to cut out under acceleration !

The official Nissan word is 72 litres.

Yep you get about 30 - 35 miles after light on before it goes bone dry mis fires and you roll to a halt. I did it on a dark night so thankfully nobody saw me. Managed to phone the wife to bring the can from the garage at home, (without the spout) - got about 3 lites in, made it to the garage and got 69 litres in. Never did it any harm - ticks over lovely at 700rpm! More careful now!

Re-Clarification - my car is jap and so 450-500 is kilometres. 600 kilometres or 375 miles is the most I have got from a tank. Seems others have managed it too.

Bilky

Yours a TT and any mods or an NA? I want to get to the bottom of this! Especially when even driving like a granny doesnt seem to help.

Willie

My petrol light is what I call your fucked light. I have about 10 mile in it when it comes on. And it hardly stays on. I think some one has moved the ajuster on the the dial.

Stuart

I did 55 miles this week with £15 of petrol, damn this driving in 2nd and waiting for the car to warm up and having the heater on all the time.

You drive in 2nd waiting for the car to warm up ????

And having the heater on won't make any difference to the fuel consumption, the a/c will though.

lol hmmmm is that true you drive in second gear? why is that.

Talking of this all i managed a record low this week. 60 LITRES AND 115 MILEs????????
