how can i get wastegate chatter on a 350zx

Stick a turbo in it?!

Helpfully, Dave

is there such a car?

you got 350Z or 300Zx?

i cant hear any on mine, but get loud chatter on my 200sx. I have a HKS filter fitted.

i meant 300zx! i (will) already have turbos but ive heard the stock turbos n the dont make any chatter. i love wastegate chatter, sounds a lot better than a dumpvalve

Fit external wastgates I have mine going back to the front pipes as I dont like the idea of flames breathing all over the road.

Not on a road car.

i just want some wastegates for my turbos that go ch ch ch ch ch ch(say it fast)!i saw a cosworth once with them on. my friend said that they replaced the dump valve with an actuator?but my other friend says the noise is caused by the wastegate and its called wastegate chatter

"Temple Laugherne motorsport" is the name of them but ive neard heard or seen of them anywhere before...they were already fitted when I got my Z.

Ask Krsmayo what ones he has as they also do it but his are a more recognisable brand I think.

Dont know what the best are...theres another thread at the mo about Dump valves so go and have a butchers at it :duffer:

I think if your gonna fit them then yes I would fit one on each :wack:

Dont worry about them mate they only drive mondeos down here :D

Lol Mac - screamer pipes on a 300zx would be insane.. I'm with you on that one - pipe them back to the exhaust :) Anyway, run a screamer and you'll never be able to take it on track.

Anyway - wastegate chatter..

I'm reliably informed that the sound most people call wastegate chatter is actually the pressurised air bouncing back off the closed throttle plates and exiting the intake system via the impellor blades (backward) and then out through the air filter. The ch-ch-ch-ch noise is the air being "cut up" by the impellor blades as it stalls the turbo on it's journey backward out the system.

At standard boost levels it wouldn't be too bad, but at increased boost it is bad for your turbos - will reduce their life, and if you're unlucky, shatter the impellor.

Basically, all you need to do to get the sound is remove & cap the standard recirculating valves and bingo. You've just ruined several years of R&D by some top Japanese engine designers ;)

Oh, it'd quite likely much up your fuelling as well (but then, so well a vent to atmosphere BOV, technically) as the MAF will be measuring very odd airflows when you shut the throttle plate.

Ahh, I bet you've all missed my technical waffle?
