Now I am probably wrong again but you know me. WTF.

But I was led to believe that a front wheel drive car can only handle just over 200 BHP?

Beyond that its gotta be 4WD or RWD?

WHo drives at 140MPH???? Not me guv,,,never go above 70, ever........

Only ever see 70 when I am slowing down...lol

Correct. I believe there is only one production FWD car with over 200bhp, and thats the new Alfra 156 GTA, where they've been pretty clever with the front suspension setup.

my saab 9-3 is 195hp so i guess it just survives torque understeer PMSL

Doesn't the latest Astra VXR have 240BHP going through the front wheels????

The torque steer on that is lethal  but nice car to drive.

What is the world coming to :headvswal

Just read the new Focus ST will have 220bhp. :wack:

They should leave FWD to the shopping carts, family cars and repmobiles.

what is the world of Zed ownership coming to :x:

I seem to remember a certain peugot getting in our way chris. lol

The mondeo st220 has 220bhp fwd Im sure that it was on top gear that it was the limit for fwd cars.

My mate has one and it would give me a run for my money on country roads

The reason I was told is because when I had my MG ZT190+ I was looking at getting it chipped and was told I couldn't really get much more becuase it was almost 200BHP anyway? And of course FWD.

So I got a ZED instead.

A FWD car can have as much power as you want. The only limitation is how far you can tune the engine. However beyond a certain point it will become undrivable due to torque steer and lack of traction. The only way the Alfa 147 manages is with traction control which is one pretty much all the time when you put the power down. Oh and Autodelta have tuned a 147 GTA to about 350bhp.

huh? Depends on many other factors, my Supercharged VR6 was rolling roaded at 323bhp at the fly..

Fitted a Quaiffe LSD to deal with the traction issues..

I think there's quite a few FWD cars with over 200bhp.

Accord Type R, Fiat Coupe Turbo, the pokey Saabs and Volvos (250bhp ish), those mentioned above and more.

Funny you know because I have just found out that my Volvo is FWD and is 272 BHP. so thats that one out of the window?

Yeah, it's true. The amount of power in any car is only limited by how far you can tune the engine, however from what I understand of the way traction control works (which isn't much I'll freely admit), essentially it controls the amount of power going to the wheels to prevent slippage. So, even if you've got traction control and a 1000hp at the fly wheel on a front-wheel drive car, you're not going to get anything like that going through the wheels because the traction control will have to limit it so much to prevent slippage.
