Thing is, I've had it in lock up and only driven it a couple of times since I got a warning a few weeks ago. been trying to get the 1,400 euro together since then.

finished a hard days slog today , decided to bring it back to my house and get the paperwork ready to bring it to the tax office tomorrow to pay the duty....I sh*t you not .....tomorrow the duty was being paid.

two guys in a Discovery were hidden in some trees outside the industrial estate where I work, waiting for me. I asked them to wait while I removed the very expensive pioneer sound system installed (which was taken out of my old Zed). No chance . "anything fixed to the car stays in the car"

Before anyone thinks I'm looking for sympathy for being very stupid, I'm not. I'm quite capable of feeling sorry for myself :(

They've asked me to go the government buildings tomorrow morning to see if anything can be done , but knowing this particular guy i would fooking doubt it . Sickening thing is I've spent a lot of cash upgrading and replacing parts which i've been doing since Christmas, Where on my previous zeds I've given the government money first , then found i don't have a lot of cash to spend.

I Know i've not been on here very long but ask you guys to say a couple of prayers for me tonight! the chances of anything positive happening tomorrow are slim, and the fact some of these dirty customs guys will eventually sell it at some private auction for a handy bit of cash is making my blood boil........

thanks fellas,

Been seized because you're supposed to pay the duty within 28 days (I went over to the uk last december to buy it). so yes i've been a bad boy this time , but never done it before. As I've said I had other things of priority.

They can if they want ask me to pay 30% of the cars value for every month over i've had it here. ..........It depends on this particular Sh*t head who took it. I think he will.....

Doing the math, they could give me a 10,500 euro fine plus the duty 1,400 euro. remember, these guys were hiding...Yes HIDING IN A DITCH waiting for me. so It doesn't look good

Sorry to hear that man surely there must be some kinda appeal system ??

Yeh, it lies in the discretion of the official who seized it.....who seems to be an absolute c*nt.

anyone who wants to say "Mick you are an absolute edgit" feel free

What about the bloke you got it from. Cant he scream that you never paid him and say he wants it back coz it aint your property? Just a suggestion mate.

Report it Stolen !!!

So how does that work then are they like self employed type blokes

thanks vinni, but documents are in my name now so no-go. I will say one thing. people call me a gentle giant for obvious reasons. But If this guy does me tomorrow I'm gonna do something I might regret.

I'm a hard working man with a family. I don't mess around in cars, or cause trouble. If this guy gives me greif tomorrow I will do something seriously to embarrass him in front of his colleagues

thinks he has power? I'll show him power of a large fist. Am I getting drunk and agressive? think so........

Couldn't you offer to pay it at an affordable monthly rate.. That kinda stuff works with the Gov over here

I guess we'll see tomorrow. to be honest , I think it's gone. these guys i'm talking about are ruthless. thers been a lot of cars in Dublin seized recently. Mainly expensive big beemers and mercs. I guess the guys down here want to show they are "playing a part".....so they take Mick's zed.

ABSOLUTE BASTSRDS

Really sorry to hear this kinda stuff makes ya wana :hurl: money should be spent out chasing drug dealers not hiding in bushes to take a blokes motor

you got pm mate....i'm gonna sleep on it first but you got me thinking of a way out...maybe chat tomorrow

Jesus, that is not good!

Hope you can sort it out.

My only advice is to stay calm and be apologetic. "**** pride" as Marcellis Wallis (the big black guy) said in Pulp Fiction.

thanks vinni, but documents are in my name now so no-go.

Chewie, your name on the log book is NOT proof of ownership, i think vinni may have a point if you can get the seller to agree, and you admit to not paying for it, it may mean a bit of post dated paperwork but think about it, if you buy a car off a finance company it remains thier property untill its paid for, hope this helps you

Regards

Pete

they don't seem to worry about crimes that do not bring in revenue....muggers etc get off as the government are too busy concentrating on taking money from us hard working people...makes me maaaaad!!!

Chewie does live in a foreign country remember...well sort of

Have a look into your import / export regs over there as you may be able to claim it was only on temporary import (very much depends on the wording of your original paperwork when first imported to Eire).

In almost all countries you can temporarily import goods with no duty payable if they are not destined to stay in that country(Like demonstrators for shows etc).

Also as this vehicle came in from the UK and your in Eire (both members of the EU) surely there is no duty payable (as long as the duty was payed in the UK!!!!).

HTH

I'm not sure that changing the situation from evasion of duty payment to what would effectively be the theft of a car and its removal from the country would be a sound idea

Thanks for all the help and advice guys! Got my Zed back this afternoon!!

I was very humble and apologetic and think it paid off. I was only given a 200 euro fine (plus the duty of course), and a ticking off.

I am EXTREMELY lucky. When I was brought to the compound to collect it I saw a lot of bmw's and skylines taken from people who weren't so lucky :(

So now i'm legal, 91 W 1755, that's me! now, where's the beer, i'm off to celebrate, and twinpier, cheers fella!
