I heard a funny noise when driving.

I loooked under the car and a plastic pannel has come lose at the back and is draging on the road.

It's under the car, towards the front on the passesnger side. The front of the pannel is still attached to the car but the rear has come free.

Any idea if it's all still there (or has part been lost) and how to fix it back in place? I can't see any obvious fastenings.

Cheers chaps!

Just take it off for now and get it put back on next time its on a ramp.

Or leave it off.

Dunno much about your panel but is that wheel in the background attached to your wheelie bin? Is it an all wheel drive wheelie bin. lol.

as mark tt said it's look's like one of the splash pannals which are fastened on by 10mm bolts if i rememeber rightly. get under and undo the remaining bolt and re place when you can get to it more easily. ie ramp.

Thanks lads.

I had another look and realised it's a part that should go side to side, not backwards like it looked at first.

It was partially ripped on the one side that was still held on and a gentle tug ripped it clean off.

Here's the part. It runs across under the car between the front wheels.

I'm guessing it's some sort of splash guard.

Will it be ok to drive for a few days until I get it replaced? Any idea what the part is called or where I can get one from?

Thanks again!

personally m8, i always take em off anyway. more cold air getting to the engine. its never bothered mine, even upto 179mph... i also take the rubbers off the scuttle panel n under the bonnet to aid cooling...

you could just refix it with a few self tapping screws & washers if need be :)

Thanks lads.

They are quite expensive brand new - you can find them at courtesyparts.com or ask one of the traders like andyz if he has a second hand one. Or if yours is not too bad - zip strip it back in place - like mine.

lol...mine fell of a few weeks ago and i used some cable ties for now...

I think at very high speeds it probably aids the turbulence factor to some degree as alot of money is spent these days (not on zx though) on undertrays and also diffusers at the rear but its not essential.

Here, here black magic. Been reading the same thing in my big book of turbo charged cars (forced induction performance tuning by graham bell). Interesting if you're a bit of a geek like me! How much difference it makes at 'normal' speeds I don't know but worth sticking back on I reckon. You want lower pressure behind the radiator in order to 'pull' air through the radiator and intercoolers. Without the undertray air would be coming up behind the radiator from the road and therefore hindering the flow.....probably!

it also aidsas protection any stones flicking up not good if one got trapped betwen a belt for EG but as said a few self tapers or even casble ties should do the trick,as the old 10mm bolts snap for a pastime being reduced to the elements!
