what is this place coming to ?

last weekend, wazza made a post about trying not to let serious posts degenerate into drivel, and i am asking again now

yesterday a perfectly good post is made by a new member asking for advice about buying a 300, and the post goes straight to an auto/manual thing

it doesn't help anyone, and the new guy is drawn straight into a running joke that only existing members know about

to be honest, i think it's a crap situation

we've got more schizophrenics than a nuthouse

for a while, the multiple identities thing was a little funny, now the horse is well and truly flogged, believe me

i dont care about what you all post, as some of the stuff is definitely funny, but personally i cant stand having to read through it on every single thread

if someone asks for serious advice, then they should get some serious answers, period.

if you want a thread that will be completely useless for it's Z value, then mark it as so, so we can all choose whether we want to waste our time reading it...

i used to post on here all day, every day, but over the last few months my enthusiasm for posting has dwindled.

the reason is because every post i try and write, i start off moaning about the useless drivel that pollutes good threads, and i dont want to be the one that moans about everything that goes on

i dont close threads very often, and i dont tell people to shut up or get lost or even ban them, i dont want to do that.

that is not what i set this forum up for. i like to think that people can be a bit sensible when left to make their own judgement about what they can post.

the problem is, once things start to degenerate into crap, it gets like a virus, and everyone starts doing it

there are a lot of members that have been on the board since day one, and even earlier if you remember bravenet, and they used to post regularly. now, they post about once a week, if at all, but i know they still TRY to read it, but it is difficult

if they dont post, then the board loses a

lot of very useful and knowledgeable people.

this board has become more like a school playground than a useful resource.

i have often asked about creating a separate forum for all the crap, but the majority vote goes with keeping it all together as it keeps the friendly atmosphere etc.

fine, i would rather keep one main discussion forum, but at least try and keep the threads related to their title

i dont really want to assign people to start moderating the forum and deleting posts that are irrelevant or just plain crap, but if i have to, i will.

but i wonder what percentage of posts get deleted... over 50% ? without a doubt !!

makes moderation a full time job.

i dont want to change the atmostphere, or stop the humour and wit that surfaces occasionally, but i do want to be able to read a thread without swearing to myself or hovering over the delete post button because it is a complete waste of everyones time.

i also want to get some enthusiasm back and start posting regularly again, please.

Oh, this is superb rolleyes.gif. As soon as someone says anything slightly controversial people get in a huff, pack up their bags and stomp off the forum.

Timmy, Matty - don't go.

Everyone has something to contribute on this forum, no matter how much they know (or don't) about Zeds.

For those of us who aren't in the ecehlons of people like AndyP and Az et al, we learn a lot by reading their posts. Learning is made more accessible if it is fun.

While I agree that an awful lot of threads degenerate into mindless drivel a lot of the time, there are equally some excellent posts to which people will probably refer time and again for information.

I like this forum, despite being the only girl amongst who knows how many blokes and it is a credit to you all that I wasn't made to withstand the usual "oh it's a girlie, let's talk down to her - do you know what a car is, dearie?" crap to which I usually get subjected.

Craig does a stirling job with this place and if we can just withold the banalities down to a bare minimum then everyone will benefit.

There, that stopped me working for a good 2 minutes biggrin.gif

Starting to feel guilty now, since I was the one who made the comment in Starbucks post when it degenerated into an auto vs. manual debate..

I imagine that comment was also aimed at me Mike.. And we're not really talking so much about the jokes in the middle of a conversation, but the hijacking of someones entire thread (where he asked for advice, remember) and turning it into an "autos are for girls" vs "manuals are for ladyboys" debate (again)..

Ah well. I'll shurrup now..

Oh yeah - one last thing.. I do love this place, *and* the humour.. Honest!

Just didn't like poor Starbucks thread being totally hijacked.. Perhaps I shouldn't have been quite so harsh, but there you go.. You learn from your mistakes..

I certainly don't want Tim or Matty to leave the forum.. (In fact I'm running after them as we speak, to attempt to staple them firmly back to the floor...)

(see, humour.. I do have a sense of humour... honest biggrin.gif I swear I do! OK OK so its a crap one...)

Timmy, Matty

You've got mail

Hi Guyz & Girlz,

As a newish member, I would like to add that the new members who request help need peoples input to the problem. They are people who like the Z, and want to keep it running without using Nelson Mandelas, and being ripped off.

If they dont get the assistance this forum can offer, they lose interest in the car because it becomes to expensive to keep.

Lets keep the humour in the right places, and not on technical threads.

Leigh.

Running away is accepting defeat - don't do it !

And aside from that this thread is starting to run like you two are the scapegoats or root cause of all this. That is not true, most people here have some part to play in it - and I include myself.

Personally I think this forum made it possible for me to own a Z, to know you have access to people who will give you straight, honest and un biased answers to almost any problem is refreshing.

I like the silliness but agree it's frustrating reading through it all in the hope you can get the information you were looking for.

Lets keep it light-hearted and the excessive off topic content just needs to go on a different thread.

I think it would be a great loss to the forum if ANYBODY left, after all we all have knowledge to share, on a variety of subjects.

Just my thoughts as a new member.

Herman

Ok my two cents....

1st of craig starts this thread about threads losing focus and by the time it got to bilky it was off topic already, i mean really bilky wink.gif

At the end of the day, yeah i was nakagima, and it was soemthing that happened while alot of us were on MSN, ill drop that from now on, i havent been anyone else and i think that is rather stale.

i spoke about this last week and no one listened, now its all kicked of.

And why do you guys get the hump when someone points something out about you...?

maby it show guilt. if i was told of for upsetting someone, then im open to the critisiccnnmnfmnnm (lol) Not everyone has the same sence of humor and some are older than others and its supposed to be a general forum for all kinds.

i mean god how many of you moan about my spelling, (actually i do have a finger that does not work) but no excuses there.

i could take offence cause if you were disabled it would not be that funny would it?

but i realize that its not meant to hurt people.

so blah blah blah...

some people need to lighten up and others need to calm down , and we can all enjoy the site. personally i have met some very nice people on this forum and ive also met little people who feel they should talk behind your back and (then they are upset when you find out about it)

anyway my two cents....

ps one more thing what the hell is up with "m8t youve got mail" surly the person would be checking there mail anyway ???

I suspect that there are a lot of members like myself who joined a while ago, who now just try to sift through some of the crap on here. Not bothering anymore to add comments or give advise.

Its a sad state of affairs, but Craig you are right.

talk about over reaction

i did not point the finger at anyone in particular, thats not what this is about, and noone started this whole thing off...

it has been bugging me for ages, but the new user post really annoyed me

i do not want to make it a pure techie no fun forum, but i also do not want a friday night down the pub attitude all the time

i want a bit of both, which it has, but currently everything spills over and pollutes almost every thread

thats all i ask, serious questions to be treated seriously for the most part, you can always start another thread if you want a laugh, i dont care how many threads there are

some of the reactions astound me.... i'm lost for words...

nzr forum ? or common sense and respect the topics ?

C'mon GuyZ, I've only just found this forum, I'd hate to loose it.

A forum is only as good as it's members, and this is a quality forum wink.gif

Friggin hell is there something in the water or has some one died, i feel like slitting me throat reading all this, surely the 24th Nov RR day is a great chance for us all to meet, with Zeds or not, have a laugh and put faces to all the names of the forum, i don't think there is any need for members to leave, we are who we are, sometimes i think timmy, what are you going on about now, but then hey, that's him and i'm me !

shake hands now everybody (kisses for Ajay though) and lets back to the job in hand, "socialising about 300zx cars" Smithy

As a new member I would like to voice my opinion.

I am hoping to buy my zx this weekend and have bee reading all the posts this week looking for any useful info. I was surprised to see, on that silly string about autos and manuals, that zx enthusiasts are actually referring to autos as crap isn’t that a bit like a bird watcher shooting a sparrow because they are too common.

Now I realise that some posts are ment to be humorous but it should be noted that we are not all friends that know each other on a social level, this is after all an open forum, and strangers like myself have a hard time trawling through all the crap.

As for the auto v manual issue the answer is quite simple, drive which ever you prefer. If you enjoy cruising around on a summer evening, tops off and cd playing that’s fine, if your thing is flying around country lanes and racing that’s fine also.

People should be less adversarial, if I were to by a stock n/a for what ever reason would that make me a zx outcast? Of course not. If I were to prefer the stock body would that make me wrong in the eyes of the body kit owners?

The one thing that all members have in common is that their car is their pride and joy, a little more respect for individuals personal preferences would go a long way.

Sorry about the sermon………..feel better now.

This REALLY surprises me frown.gif

Nearly every tech related post/thread that I have just scanned thru has reasoned, objective and courteous advice in reply.

Every now and then someone goes mad and starts an Auto vs Manual debate (incedentally that was one of the FIRST questions I asked many moons ago before I contemplated my choice of Zed and Im still here and lovin' the place).

The reason the Auto/Manual debate rages is because people feel passionate about it.

I LOVE my Zed.

I LOVE humour.

300zx.co.uk has both in ample amounts.

I wonder if the 'techies' tried a little humour and the 'funny guys' tried some tech advice things'd be different??

With Respect.

I wasn't going to post but will join in and add my own opinions while we all are doing so. I also remember Bravenet and it was great but with many less members. The fun side of things has I suspect been a major contribution to more members but ...

Couldn't agree more with Warren - let's not post on the forum to tell people they have mail or that you've just sent them a text - PLEASE !

My suggestion is that we try adding a technical forum rather than adding an NZR forum. Let's see if it works and if it ends up not being used then we ditch it. This is obviously if Craig is happy to do it and hasn't lost the will to live.

I for one would be happy to check a Technical Forum every time I'm on the site and offer responses to questions (where I can from my somewhat limited expertise cabinet).

Huge respect to Craig for his reaction to this ever increasing frustration. Many would have closed the forum (for those who weren't around, it happened on twinturbo.net) or have got heavy on sensorship - happens all over the place. The guy has the patience of a huge patient thing.

With effort, I am certain we can all continue to contribute to this community and do it without pissing each other off.

Dave

I'm not going to get into this debate, I'm still a little suprised by peoples reactions today.

There is a meeting this Sunday at the Red Bull around Gillingham area, how many of this forum are gonna make it, a bit of face 2 face wouldn't go amiss, don't know if Craigs gonna be there but I hope so. Think we should all buy him a drink he runs this group for no thanks after all, he must be wondering why at the moment!

See Darrens posting for details of venue.

Tim

Senna well said mate you hit the nail on the head!!! This thread has been started off with a post yesterday DO I BUY AUTO OR MANUAL!!!

All I did was biggrin.gifAUTO biggrin.gifAUTO biggrin.gifAUTO.

So if anyone on here thinks that that was not

acceptable then you are indeed a very sad person!!!

bash.gif

Oh MAN, I go on holiday for 2 days, 2 DAYS, and the place falls to pieces without me.

Craig, I agree. If someone wants tech info, please give it to them. I'm not too keen on a separate joking forum but I am in favour of separate threads with "NZR" in the heading.

Anyway, good to see you all again. Went away to relax, and come back to a forum that has sent my heart rate through the roof, LMAO. I love this place,

Andy

Its OK having all these meeting down south but, for the people up North, you are talking at least a 3 hour drive there and 3 hours back with close to £70 worth of petrol. Well for me anyway.

I agree, keep questions free of rubbish and stick to the point.

I have np with the other stuff just keep it in seperate threads.

Simple smile.gif

Martin

Chill out Guys!..We all love Zeds on here, just cut out some of the silly answers on the genuine tech/question threads and all will be fine!

If someone doesn't like the "funny" threads, then don't read them! There's something for everyone on here...if it gets too serious, people will only drift away.

There's only so much you can talk about with regard to technical/insurance/tyre matters, anyway wink.gif

Set up an indepth FAQs section...and nobody will have to post any questions at all!!

JEZ wink.gif

Okay point taken about the 'down south' meetings - sorry guyz it's where we live!

As the 'club' grows so meetings will take place throughout the country - hopefully.

The Red Bull is the only meet I've been to other than Billing and my point was that Craig was gonna be there so we could buy him a drink.

later...

Tim

Well, what can I say???? frown.gif I can truly say that my heart sank when I read this thread today. For gods sake why has everyone got their backs up??? Nobody is forced to read a thread with a gun to their head are they???

The story basically goes like this - I come on the forum mainly for a laugh but if there is any advice I can give I will try to help 110%. If this forum degenerated into a tech only forum then I would VERY rarely visit - possibly if I had a problem. Out of all the posts I have made there is probably more than 60% tech stuff - I like to help people but if they back stab then I start to feel less willing!

Maybe the word 'FORUM' needs defining - it is a disgusion place wink.gif

I am not taking the initial comment the wrong way - I am taking the misunderstanding of the original post quite hurtfull frown.gif

If people can't take a joke then how the hell do they survive? Yes I realize that a tech thread should be kept that way - and I would like to think I stick by this..... But can we not even have a laugh every now and then???

Why does the UK have such a problem with censorship? Or rather too much of it wink.gif Just because some people don't want to have a laugh doesn't mean that they can stop everyone else!

So I posted a thread as a laugh about auto vs manual - so what??? It was obvious that it was a laugh from the start so people who don't have a sense of humour don't have to read it...... AND I am NOT having a go at anyone at all - just putting my responce to the posts above.

I was really looking forward to meeting up again at Kemble but now it has lost its edge a little - don't get me wrong NOTHING will stop me enjoying this forum and my car but it's the laugh we have on here that keeps me coming back. If new members can't tell the difference between a tech post and a joke then it's a very very sad state of affairs.

Craig - I agree whole heartedly with YOUR original point and completely understand the reasoning behind it.... BUT I think that people who have turned it into the "MUSTN'T HAVE ANY HUMOUR" are THE most guilty of the aforementioned offence. Looking through the above comments it has turned from 'keep tech tech and have a laugh with NZR' into 'Lets all be sad boring farts and talk spark plugs....'. This is what I call going off topic and simply using the fact that there are an administrators views to hide behind.... when in fact these weren't the views in the first place.

I'm sorry if anybody has been offended by my points cos I don't want to offend (thats not why I posted this!) but if I didn't say what I've said I would be guilty of my own criticism - don't back stab wink.gif

CheerZ for listening to my rant if you're still with me,

Andy

I agree. I used to read most threads, but now I don't have the time for all the non 300 chat, surely you guys could use MSN during the day?

Cheers,

Jez.

yeah but jez, lets do be frank about this.

A car club by its definition is to meet other people who have the same interests as you. And to help you and give advise.

The problem with this forum is. If we only had tech stuff to talk about, there would be all of 3 posts a week all to do about what spark plugs to buy, and then you could do a search on that anyway.

Then you get guys who come on ask you your opinion, take total offence to it and do there own thing anyway.

i think i usually come on here to meet and chat with people i have something in common with. Yet 90 % of the people on here (and you can take offence to this if you want, whoever you are) are so self consious they are to scared to come up to you when there is a meet and say "hi my name is ..." i mean i have been to two meets here and on both occasions everyone stands around like they are lost... and if you bring that onto the forum then ffk's whats the point of having a forum..

At the end of the day, again the minority of people on this forum have spoilt it to a point for everyone.

And again you cant honestly tell me you dont have all of 30 seconds to read the headings of the threads... cause then your just plain lazy or thinks the sun shines out your arse, in which case it doesent (cause there is no sun in england biggrin.gif )

BACK TO WAHT CRAIG SAID, LEAVE TECH TECH, AND LETS ALSO HAVE SOME FUN frown.gif
