I only live about 10 miles from where I work (yeah, yeah, I know I should walk, cycle, bus etc!) so consequently I do very few miles a year. So far this year I've racked up only 2500. Would a 300ZX be suitable/reliable enough to use on a daily basis for work, plus the occasional weekend excursion? Or does a 10 year old supercar need TLC to keep it in good working order?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

used mine every day for about 3 years :)

Looked at pictures everyday of mine for the last two years

I drive mine to work every day even though I could walk it in 10 minutes...just cos I love driving her....baing a lazy fooker doesn't help tho.....

Used mine everyday for 5+ years. Only recently since I've went from about 8,000 - 22,000 a year did I get a cheap daily drive.

I have used mine every day for 4 years to go to work (50 mile round trip) and on some long hauls too. Found her very reliable, fast and comfortable until I had my current gearbox problem. She does around 25 miles/gal as well.

mate if you turn up to buy one an d

1. the body work doesnt look like its half filler half base paint etc

2. the engine runs well and quiet who cares if its got 100k on the clock we dont live in 1930 anymore

3. it drives nice its got mot and tax

4 hand over your cash and just enjoy life..

I really do think people worry about cars to much these days, MPG etc

Power reliability

Just buy it and enjoy it afterall you know its a 3.0V6 Twin turbo so you know what to expect when it goes wrong and you know its gonna drink fuel.

Mines never broke down aswell

Its a very reliable car I think as is most JAp cars...

just put some pennies aside every week for a rainy day..

we are not talking about A TVR Cerbera here ;)

i drive mine everyday and lash the living daylights out of it (even when cold) and its only had minor probs, But saying that if like me you want to modify thats where the probs start, But i love it and lash it everyday and it stoll comes back for more

LMFAO!!

Use my Manual, NA everyday for a 16 mile round trip and only had problems you would normally get on a 15 year old car - eg starter motor, radiator. 24mpg, £330-00 fully comp and a great looking car as well.

Go for it mate - you only live once.

i only live 2 miles away from work :nelson: and still use the Z. eats petrol like a bugger tho. im thinking about getting a crappy little 1.0 litre something to make the long 8-minute journey to work

Like most cars - the best thing you can do with them is use them every day.

It wont hurt them but will in fact keep them in good shape - as problems will quickly come to light. One of the worst things you can do with a car is leave it sitting about for weeks. So if you can afford the optimax just run it all the time.If you cant afford constant fuel bills you should maybe look at something more econimical as you will get 16 - 20 mpg when you boot it.

I used to drive my Z to work everyday for 12 mths then family came along.. Z was paid for so i garaged her and bought a cheap runabout. Best decision I ever made. She just gets run in the summer evenings and at weekends. during the working day i drive a 2.0 astra sri chav-mobile :D

Hammer or Pamper the Z still is a great car but there are bad ones out there.. :nono:

Similar story for me.

Same round trip to work plus holidays (around 1500 miles per week on hols) and no problems apart from using a Landrover to help me stop once :slap:

I bought a Rav-4 last winter though so I could get to work across the Chilterns in the snow. It almost halved my fuel costs but I really don't care as I use the ZX again now because it is much better to drive.

If you're worried about economy buy a VW diesel and as for reliability they are Nissans afterall, so unless you buy a dog or do some serious power mods then you've nothing to worry about.

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Have used mine every day for about month, 30 mile each way. And the best bit is despite spirited driving, still average 31mpg (non turbo manual 94) which I find amazing. You don't have to push it hard to get the power hence no need to bury the throttle, that and the recaros that have me sat about 3 inches from the ground make it so damn cool driving fast just limits the time you spend in it!

I use mine to work every day and the best bit is. Every other day I meet a bloke on the same strait ish section with one of them Audi RS4 things meant to be 380BHP..Bahh I say or it's twice the weight of my TT:)

Every day....

25,000+ a year...done 10,100 in last six months

I aint payin over 2K on insurance and £250 on a set of rears every two months along with £190ish Road Tax just to leave the feckin thing at home... :headvswal

although the monthly £350 fuel bill takes some getting used to :nelson:

Its a drivers car..so drive it :hyper:

I'll drink to that my friend :duffer:

truer words were never spoken. Unless you're f*cking loaded and not bothered about you're fuel, insurance and tax costs, it's a mortal sin not to drive it everyday.

typical example in a garage forecourt " is that a 3 litre? oooooooohhhh...........must be expensive to run, especially with oil prices on the rise and all that"

MY USUAL REPLY

" Yeah, it is a 3litre....with two F*cking big turbo's, insurance costs a fortune, but a very reliable car, it is Japanese afterall."

"Now do me a favour, go back to you're renault megane with it's 7 cup holders, go home, find something you're passionate about, something that puts a smile on you're face after a hard days work, and F*ck off.".............................. :nana2:

Jeez, must be the heat getting to me.

Everyday motor mine too, 10 minute walk to work or 2 minute blast in the zed, MMMMmmmmmmm, let me think about it, get the harry huffer's puffing m8, if you see a bike, blow im away, it really p*sses em orf, an i've ad bike's for year's. In fact the zed is probably the closest thing i have ever driven to riding a bike, the thrill factor that is. Furk the fuel bill, cost me 200 note's to mot her on rear drop links and hicas rack drop arms, my astra 1700 deisel cost me £400 last year. Go for the Zed m8 you wont regret it. :hyper:

Yup.

every day car.

I can understand an apprehension to ownership after reading the posts on this forum.

But bear in mind - you don't often get a thread like this - cars running fine for years.

Usual thread is - me car's faulty, please help.

as supercars go, the Zed has to be up there in terms of reliability.

Parts are easy to find and generally cheap - in supercar terms - and the guys and girls on here are a godsend when it comes to helping you out.

So go for it.

My answer to "that must use a lot of fuel" -

"it uses as much as it needs, just like yours. Except mine isn't depreciating at the rate yours is"

Honestly. How some folk can shell out for a new car the try to critisize the amount I spend on mine. Dunno. An eighteen grand car over 3 years loses 9 grand. 3 grand a year !

For what? Free RAC cover for a year, free warranty so the monkeys at the dealership can have a go at fixing stuff the manufacturer thought they could save money on and a nice seat in the dealership while you await delivery? Not for me thanks

3 grand a year depreciation. And half of that is while yer sleeping !!!!!!!!!!

:)

no problems,i use mine everyday 14 miles round trip to work, even do the school run in it,it helps my boys r only 7 & 4, its cool loads lads shout out nice car, real headturner.

only probs ive had was new batterey in the winter, thats it.

obviously if you cane it she will give Ollie Reed a run for his money, just lavish time and care on her and she will be one awsome chariot.

I've had two now and neither of them have let me down to the point where I couldn't drive it, only little niggles that were sorted out straight away for free (after the great help you get from being a member here) or next to nothing and they both get thrashed more often then pootling around town... nothing non sexual related makes me happier then being in my ZED :D

Nice thread to read as I'm buying my first Zed soon. Have Zedworld hunting for a doo-un for me.

Mine will only be used at weekens purely because of the fact that I'll have a company car in a matter of months.

Kay, that looks lovely. Hardly see any bayside blue Zeds...nice.

Mine is my 'daily driver' and has been perfectly reliable.

It is a late car so that helps.

If you fancied going down that route, there is a 1998 R-reg car with 23,000 recorded miles for sale on autotrader.co.uk - although that sems very cheap so it might be a dog. It's £6450 which seems extremely good value for such a late registered car. you could easily spend £3000 on an early, rough one then another £3000 making it ok. if you spent the £6K in the first place you have a newer car which will be worth more when you come to sell.
