bout to do an oil change, in the past garages have always done it.

just wanted to confirm a few things.

warm engine, remove sump plug, drain.

remove filter.

grease up o-ring on new filter, and fill filter with oil.

fit filter (hand tight)

fit new sump ring and refit sump plug.

fill engine with oil.

problem is - how much oil shall I put in.

Ive already filled the filter with oil so it doesnt run dry for the first few seconds.

I dont have a working dipstick as tube has been crushed by some donkey!! so I cant dip engine. Is it 4.5 litres to put in?

Cheers

I Have done loads of oil changes it has always take over 4 litres.

when draining oil take off the oil filler cap,

use engine oil to grease the seal on the oil filter just dab finger in oil and go around the seal with finger.

Standard UK Z is 3.5 litres, and check it regularly, it will burn off any excess and leave it on the back of the car! I am on my second Z and 4 engine and they have all used up about 1/2 litre per 500 miles. I did not believe it but have checked this by changing the oil after 500 and 1000 miles before as engine rebuilds are bl@@dy expensive (and keep the car off the road) I know there are cars out there that are as good as gold and never use any oil but I have never had one.

What I have done is fitted the oil cooler kit from Stillen which means you can put in 4.5 litres (but it still uses 1/2 litre per 500 miles!)

could be wrong here but i just changed oil n filter and it took over 4 litres tough to tell on the really helpfull dipstick! when i looked in the shell book it only listed up to 92 at 3.7 litres but didnt list amount after 92 just wondering if capacitys changed after then?

Mine hardly ever uses any oil - I don't think I've ever topped up with more than 1/4 of a litre of oil and that was after 2000 miles of mostly hard driving in hot weather.

1/2 a litre per 500 miles does sound excessive - turbo or cylinder problems perhaps?

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
