Looking to replace the rusty exhaust on the zed. Looked at these people (the Sheffield locations) seems okay.

Anybody got one of these? or can comment?

I know bugger-all about exhausts, so any advice welcome.

cheers

Mark

powerflow crap mate ...use to be made from mild steel and rusted bad ( i know, i had one on my rx7) . Longlife are good as all completely stainless steel . Better value for cash mate . http://www.longlife.co.uk.

A few members on here have the longlife exhausts are come recommended.

Check out ebay at the mo - BlueFlame are selling on there and they do a decent s/steel system similar to the mongoose. Their reserve is £350 (+ £15 carriage) - I've just bought one (getting it fitted 5/5/05 for around £50 by my local garage) and it looks top quality :hyper:

I watched them for a couple of weeks - as soon as one sells for the reserve or more he puts another up for auction. Most peeps bid way too low hence I learned the reserve was £350.

Give it a go - the Mongoose is £470 delivered from Z Centre and that's fekking cheap.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

So powerflow are no go? they say they use S/S for parts of the exhaust - I guess they don't tell you wha they use for the rest of it....

Cheers for the Longlife link, they got one in Leeds, which I may be able to get to. I guess as these are custom built you can get the same options on what sound you want etc?

Stupid question - but do these come in different sizes etc. as I've got the SWB so don't know if I can go for the standard fit (usually the 2+2). If so that's diffenetely cheep. Any idea on quality?

You will need to have a custom fit job. No stock swb systems(eg from Mongoose)

Mine has just been done at Blueflame. Call them and talk to either Nigel or Ian, for full info. If you do go ask Ian to do the job himself. Top Man! (Tell him I sent you!!!!!!)

Remember that Zorst requirements for N/As (like mine) and TTs are different.

Take your time and get it right. There are plenty of knowledgable people on this forum to help you.

Cheers Pete.

Before I go the the pro's and not knowing the first thing about exhausts, what should I be looking to do/talk to them about?

-I think it has to be s/s just to prevent having to replace it again any time soon

-I wanna keep the noise down (keep the neighbours happy) but keep the low burble from the v6 (keep me happy)

-don't want it to fail any MOT or emission tests (will removing the cat push it over the limit?)

-while not looking for out-n-out performance any gain can't be a bad thing...

-I like the standard twin pipe look

Any advice gratefully received

Cheers

Power flow are THE worst exhaust "specialists" ive ever had the mis fortune to do business with

FOOLS who know nothing, especially about the Z

Cheers Pete.

The Blue flame item is as far as Im aware, identical to the Mongoose item (and with twin 2.5" tips either side), and is good quality Stainless steel. In fact I read somewhere that Blue flame make exhausts for Mongoose, although dont quote me on that.

The 300zx is tested as non-cat fitted car, as there is no Data for its cat emissions. Removing the cat will not cause it to fail emissions.

Based on in being very similar (at least) to the mongoose system, you can expect it to be a fairly quiet exhaust, but that gives a nice deeper sound than stock.

It will give improved breathing, and consequently a Power increase, with an improvement in throttle response and spool up, especially if decatted.

In their defence, I think it varies from place to place. I have a custom made Powerflow system and very pleased with it. Sounds great and happy with the quality. Had mine done at Croydon branch, which I had heard good things about beforehand.

I'll second that. Had mine fitted at S****horpe by the owner Deepak. Very pleased with the finish and the sound is superb. Been on since Oct 04 with no signs of corrosion. As with James though i'd heard good reports about his work.

powerflow are crap mate ....

I also find it hard to hear people saying this.

To me, as long as you get the right stockist, powerflow are pound for pound fVcking amazing. The guy at Mr.Tyres in Leicester really knows his stuff!

I have had a powerflow mid section for over 2 and a half years with no corrosion what-so-ever. Having now just removed the center section as I purchased some decat pipes and the join is further down the car.

The guy @ Powerflow made me two custom pipes out of stainless steel for £50 so I now have a straight through system. (Havent started the car yet to see how loud it is!!!)

Like James says, you guys must have been treated badly by the stockist. Come to the Leicester branch, you'll get a custom made stainless steel system for a bargain price. ;)

PS. I have a full stainless centre section for sale that could be modified to fit your SWB (ie. shortened) for £50+ P+P.

powerflow too in 2003, absolutely no problems yet ,great sound and nothing was to much trouble when they custom fitted it ...lancaster branch ....and a great selection of tips to choose from ,,,,

steve

It seems Powerflow, rather than being a shop in its own right, is always part of another company, different companies. So I really do think it comes down to individual Powerflow outlets.

If quality, is dependent on which one you go to. Anyone been to the power flow place in Sheffield, or the longlife one in Leeds?

Good or Bad?

Cheers for the advise Legrath
