Hi

Just wondered if any one come across this before:

Have just put boost controller on car - all was ok for a couple of days - then on journey coming back home I could not get out of gear - as if clutch lever not fully going in.Managed to pull lever out of 5th and went down all gears with a little bit of crunching and got back home.

So drive and gearbox and clutch works ok when in gear but unable to get out of gear.Tried bleeding about six times as per manual but no good.No leaks anywhere, plenty of fluid in reservoir.Thought it might be vacuum pipe related but all hoses intact.Any ideas?

Thanks

Mark

Have checked adjustment and all ok.

Could it be booster problem?

Mark, your clutch fork is BENT, you need to access if from underneath on a ramp, and get inside the bell housing, you can just manage it without having to remove the gearbox.

Hi

Thanks swbtt - I`ll see if I can get access to a ramp.

Should be interesting driving it like this.

I did jack the car up on one side and from what I could see the lever looked ok - but I will get a better look.

Did you have this very same problem then?

Have you actually tried adjusting it to see if it there was some improvement ?

Mark yes mate,. the standard fork is weak, It bends giving you a pull hence difficulty engaging gears or in my case getting out of gears.

You should be able to repair the fork and then take it and weld it up and make it a lot stronger, when it happened to me, I spoke to a few lads who had same problem and its been happening once the power has been increased.

If you need to speak to my mechanic, he is very obliging, and if you get the phone number for Highland mechanical services based at carsegate road Inverness and speak to "John" he will tell you any tricks you may need to know for gaining acess and re welding the thing, if you contact him just say that your a freind of Glen's, he knows me very well.

Hope that helps mate, glen

should say LESS pull hence difficulty engaging gears.

Hi Eric

Yes , after taking most of the underside dash apart on the drivers side to get to the switches as per CL-7 it adjusts to about 197mm and no more - even if you unwind the switches further. And it still makes no difference.

Worth a try though and your help is much appreciated.

Hi Glen

Ok thanks - quite interesting what you say.Its a bit of a head scratcher this one - I think I`m going round in circles.Have tried driving car and it will be too dangerous so may have to get it recovered to local garage and tell them what you suggest.Help and advice much appreciated.

Hi....

I have a similer problem....

Did u find out whats wrong with it please?

Sure did - the shit ACT "uprated clutch" fell apart. One of the springs came apart and jammed. The housing holding the spring looked to be week - I will never fit another ACT clutch again.RPS seems to be the recommended option - hence my thread looking for one - not cheap though - perhaps we should get a GB going or import a batch ourselves - let me know your thoughts.

Got my rps from smithy, and the deal was excellent, and the bugger has reduced them since too, his service is spot on, was deliverd to my door 8am following morning

Well....

My problem is this...

The last couple of months ive noticed that when the car got stuck in traffic or it got rather hot then I was unable to engage first gear or reverse...all the others worked fine.

I can dis-engage without a problem and once out of first gear its fine goin into and out of the others...no nasty noises or anything.

Well today it got worse to the point where my Zed is now stuck on the drive :headvswal

cant select 1st or Reverse...and secound is now becoming tricky.

I can change gears easily if engine is not running.

The clutch is NOT slipping..I have tried beleive me :hyper:

When or if i eventually am able to select a gear I have found the biting point to be about 10mm off of full compression(foot to floor)

And have about 2-3" of fairly soft compression at the top.

I have bled the system at the two points so I have brand new Dot4 in there and its made no difference.

I am NOT loosing fluid.

I have tried depressing the pedal slowly and its no better.

I have tried pumping it first and its no better.

Most likely first :-

1)Its been suggested that it could be the master cylinder just leaking within itself thus explaing the loss in pedal pressure and no leaks....Could this be it?

2)There was talk earlier in this thread about a lever point bending in the gbox/mcylinder...Could this be it?

3)Pedal adjustment nut...Could it be this?...(how does it work?)

4)Gearbox oil...It does need a change...Surely oil would NOTaffect it this much?

5)The clutch is fooked...Surely NOT the clutch,It doesnt slip :nono:

6)Syncro mesh....Surely NOT as i can select other gears and have never crunched 1st or reverse

As many ideas as possible please as my next step would be to get a master cylinder~(the one on the g/box)

Thanks

1. Change the master cylinder - that will rule that out , czp.us or courtesyparts.com

2. Clutch operating lever - you need to get it on a ramp or jack it up(ALWAYS USE AXLE STANDS) to see - if unsure space it out with something like a pound coin and see if you get any more movement.

3. Check the adjustment - its in the online manual - about CL 7 I think.

4. Gearbox oil - check it or get it checked.

5. The clutch - thats my guess.Takes a good mechanic about 2 to 2.5 hours to get it out.And it does`nt have to slip to be ****ed - there was hardly any wear on mine.

6. Gearbox - well if all the above are ok then this is the problem.

Also - if you are changing the master cylinder you might as wel change the slave cylinder(the one on the gearbox) they are quite cheap.

And always make sure its bled from both bleed nipples , several times as per the manual.Good luck.
