Does anybody know where I can get smoked rear light clusters please? Zcentre don't seem to keep them. Also, and I'll fully admit to being a bit of a tart for asking this, can you get a rear panel such that the "300 ZX" lights up? (I can almost hear the groans now).

i don't think you can, they are pretty rare, you can make one up yourself if you know how, definatley remember seeing a write up somwhere but that was a long time ago.

i want one of them light up ones too - ive only been looking for 2 years :(

Ive seen light up panels somewhere recently, I thought it was the z centre, must be wrong or you would know about it, I'll try and remember where I was when I saw em!

Back to smoked rear lights then Peter@PPS is your man for this.

 

Had my rear Illuminated rear panel a few years now,Smithy done a GB on them.

Glad I'm not the only tart in here then. ;-) Thanks Mac, I'll check out PPS. I don't mind the clear ones, and did think of getting some for a while, but I think the smoked ones will look better with the black paintwork. In an ideal world I'd have all the windows blacked out too but I believe this is completely illegal so I'll have to live without it.

I tint cars for a living - tint on rear three windows is legal-any shade-even painting them matt black opaque. Legalissues arise on front driver and passenger glass. BUT - if you tint the rear, yer front will look darker anyway. Or go down the illegal route.

My zed is getting tints as soon as I have time

I have a Black SWB Z with the standard limo black rear and rear side.

the other day I light smoked my drivers window as Im getting quite good at it now :nana2:

 

but it got ripped out the day after as even with it being light smoke the rest of the car is so dark anyway it looked limo black.

 

and with the driving position of the Z you cannot see where your going, Ive had tints in all my other cars but I would not recommend it with the Z. Visibility is close on dangerous and Im a confident driver ;)

mine came with the rear lit panel and the lit quater panels too in dashing green !! :nana2:

Mine were done when i changed the colour of my car the paint shop used clear laquer and a smidging of black paint ....see my rides

Smoked rear lights, dead easy. Just mix some black paint with lots of thinners. Spray the lights and leave to dry, keep doing this process untill you reach the disired pitch. The thinners slowly melts the plastic and allows the black paint to dig in (similar to a tatoo) looks real good when done.

Not sure about using an electroluminescent light behind the 300zx logo. This day & age blue & white(can use any colour filter) high intensity LEDs are cheap and will last a lot longer than anything which uses the notoriously unreliable inverter circuit which dies the moment it gets a sniff of dampness.
