Just wondered if that is possible to do a single turbo conversion to these? as i know you can buy them for the supra twin turbo and the rx7 twin turbo but what about the zed as no one seems to do them ??

I remember reading somewhere on Twinturbo.net that nissan did produced a car with the same engine running a single turbo but i forget what it was called now.

z32power.com

a guy on twinturbo/net has done it succesfully with a lot of custom work. He got some big numbers, but looking at his graphs, and comparing to TT graphs with the same HP, showed the single as having some serious lag.

so doable, but your money's best spent elsewhere.

But why do people opt for this single turbo option?? Surley two turbos are better than one! Just wondering!?

Its cheaper to buy one huge turbo than 2 very big turbos

Getting hold of the Nissan single turbo set up and bolting on a huge trubo could be interesting! :D

What car is that engine in Wes?

Is it a Z31 with a Z32 engine?

I can't remember, buts not a z31. I came across it while on TwinTurbo.net and i believe it was a car that Nissan produced for the Jap market only.

You would get more lag on a twin setup than a single and that is a fact. The cost implications on the Zed would be the manifold. Singles are preferred due to cost over twins and setup.

Here is a guy in the UK doing a single turbo convertion http://www.japmetal.com/forum/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Proj1;action=display;num=1106172244 Master power GT45 turbo. The lag must be horrendous.

lol just to poin out that if you look at the link and scrole down at the pics thats me holding the turbo (cheasey grin)

we stopped doin the turbo convertion for abit! till end of the year! as me mate (dan, in other pics) could not wait that long with out is zed! (who could blame the lad) all we got do is have the manifold made! i also might go down this route later on! but for now might go for some gt28rs! still decidin!

Is that so Roy?

I'd have thought 2 smaller turbos would give less lag than one big one but the single big one would give more BHP at the top end??

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

v6 not generally suited to a single turbo its ok with straight 6 etc etc but ****y idea on a z32

Cant see it being much good on a V6, as the TT surpa's ect are straight 6's so not a problem.

Wont you be using just 3 cylinders to run the turbo, or am i missing something here? Will 3 cyls be enough to run the turbo to flow enough air for 6? Cant see it being better then twin biggger than standard ones.

Then again, what do i know !!

wouldnt your have manifolds split from both banks to 1 turbo, still not practical on a v6 config

its realy easy actually!! all that is involved is having a manifold made commin from the drivers side, goin ova the bellhousing and then to the passengers side! with one big flange on it!

Hell, reminds me of homer simpson choosing the biggest donut he can find! Has anyone drove one modded like that? My big book of forced induction tuning by A Graham Bell says bigger is not always better. Surely that prehistoric ammonite isn't going to be practically drivable? not that I understand 50% of what Mr Bell is writing about but still.

The Z32 engine bay doesn't exactly lend itself to custom piping either. I'll be interested in how it's done. I had enough trouble getting the standard piping in and out.

true, its is very long winded, but should be ok! we are doing it for the shear "diffrent" factor! as its only ever been done twice! and will only be the uks first and only!

bit of fun at the end of the day! ;)

Apart from the new manifold setup there if probably less pipe work than the TT setup, also all the A/C is ditched as the tub takes the position of it.

would a z31 manifold fit with a bit of modding ?

gotit in one matey

Fairplay Turboslippers.... only one in the U.K. it would be nice to see the figures from the other ones around the world just to see what it can do. I understand why you are doing it but i wonder if a single turbo would overheat or unbalance a v6in any way i know it is fed by all six cylinders but insnt evrything offset to one side will you have to add wieght to the block or are you not worried about that.

I'm curious how/where are you going to fit the engine mount on the turbo side of the engine ??

Obviously you won't be able to use the stock engine mount on that side anymore because of the huge downpipe
