for a NA (or if you have a NA diff) it's ~23 mph@1000rpm in 5th gear

Its not good, in my TT i can do 160mph @ 6000rpm the N/A does approx 135mph @6000rpm. In the N/A 4th gear redlined just over 100mph, I used to do that in my old 3i back in 1984 WTF. In fact the top speed I have squeezed from the N/A at WOT is 144mph almost redlining. Strange cus I have driven std Cavalier SRIs faster than that in the past.

For people who think you only loose a bit of speed of the top when fitting an N/A diff to a TT, well think again. I will get there rather swiftly but will bottom out around 140-145mph.

Those old early-mid 90's hatches were pretty nippy as I remember had a GTE 16v and a renault 19 16v, would love to drive a nice one again today and see if its just fond memories or they were really that quick!! , seemed like sh1t off a shovel at the time.....

I think theres a lot of (WHEN I WAS A KID I REMEMBER WAGONWHEELS WERE THE SIZE OF MY FACE). mentality about that bud. The difference is when we were younger & less experienced we were easily pleased & our expectations were not as great. Besides our faces were much smaller. The thing about cars in the early 90's is there wasn't anything with real performance that most youths could afford & modding was not a thing of the masses. Allthough my XR2 did feel f**kin fast i must say

PMSL wagon wheels the size of my face :D not heard that before!! I think you're right, thats why I'd love a joy ride to put it in perspective...

never did like wagon wheels anyway!! :D

and dont bloody tempt me Dave C, would love it but my bank manager would actually kill me....

Thanks for the info.

The gearing on the TT seems so tall! A couple of weeks ago I did a 40mph to 80mph run with an AP22 performance meter measuring how long it took. It measured 5.3 seconds. I then attatched it to my mates skyline R34 and on the same strip of road it measured 3.7 seconds. He's running only about 40 more bhp than me BUT he has a 6 speed box!!

I then saw a thread on here relating to this:

It just got me thinking........

But in real life you would just put it in a lower gear ;)

I personally love the long gearing. Makes for nice motorway cruising and the zed has the low down torque to pull it along from low revs.

You can put it in 4th gear on Motorway...still be revving less than everyone else....and have the extra pull from being in the lower gear.

But in real life you would just put it in a lower gear ;)

The 40-80 run was done through the gears.

For cruising I agree, the Zed's 5th gear is great. :)

Just the 50-70 which was 3 sec for the Zed and 2.08 sec for the skyline.

will a skyline gear box fit a zed
