Maybe wrong but... this sounds familiar. Did they have written consent on them from the owner of the land your vehicle was on? I doubt it and the receipt you got is worthless. I got clamped in a pub carpark once, fronted it out to find that the brewery knew nothing about any arrangement and half the money was going to land lady! They will tell you they had to clamp a copper the other day etc etc BUT any clamping firm that is legitimate will allow non cash payment, would have computerised receipts and would have letter of consent. Worth checking out if it was private property(land owner) or highway(council).

Gutting :( was it private or council owned land ?

and if private, was it clearly marked that clamping was in force ?

Take a pic of the car when clamped in situ. All clampers must have a notice visible. they do tend to hide these. All clamping firms have to be a legit buisness and registered, this is law, got told by a copper sorting out a clamping firm a year back who where clamping cars on my property withut my knowlege and I was getting teh agro.

Phone the police, they wont do anything uless you say things are going to get out of hand, at least you have a record, and they do tend to side with the victim if things arnt ok..... ok this happened once,so the police may just decide that they might want to do some work for a change.

Greg, im suprised you didnt just keep your mouth shut, wait till they f**ked off, then remove the clamp, after all, its not illegal to remove a clamp, as long as you dont damage it, znut!!

Yeah, I heard damaging the clamp is illegal.

On some cars if you let the tyre down it will slide off.

Doesn't tend to work with big wheels / low profile tyres though.

get yourself a £1 strip of 10 x superglue from the market...look out for his van...then superglue the locks and the wiper blades and the dust caps...keep this up until you have £100 worth of satisfaction out of it...or just..buy a d-lock or cheap cable clamp and attach it to his van somewhere causing massive inconvience....save the best till last get some frozen prawns stuff half a dozen into his air vents...:D
