Hi guys, have done a bit of a search on the site already and have a few ideas, but was wondering if anyone could help with my problem.

Picked up my zx TT manual yesterday, had it imported through a company called NEWERA imports and they use a company near folkestone called MOTORMALL to do the usual UK conversions and stuff.

Car was fine when i picked it up and drove brilliantly back to london, apart from the HICAS light being on for a while (from what i have read i guess i just need to check the PS fluid) and got home ok. Went to start the car this morning and just a click. Checked the voltage across the battery terminals and was reading 13.8V. Jump started the car later and started ok. Took her out for a run and all fine (HICAS light on again), then stalled the car and same thing, went to start it and just a click so jumped again and started no problem. Checked the voltage across the battery with the engine running on tick over and voltage was 19V.

Is it just a duff battery or is it something else? :headvswal

PS

Hope to come to one of the meets soon as would like to meet the guys on here, you all sound like a good laugh as well as a wealth of information! :D

19 volts on idle sounds very high. a high alternator output could damage the battery. rather than a battery problem it sounds like the alternator could be the problem

I would take it back to newera, Miguel has a very good reputation for good cars and I am sure he will get the UK side to sort out any problems

Thanks, will email Miguel tomorrow and ring Adam at MOTORMALL. Do you think it sounds like anything serious though?

a battery will show the correct voltage across the posts but might not have the amps to start the car, mine was ok one day and just died within 2 days(ie,would not take or hold a charge but still showing 12 volts).i would check the battery first before the alt

Thanks very much, am keen to get it fixed asap as have waited ages to get the car and having only had it a day have not had the chance to enjoy it properly yet!

Hi Rosco

Forgive me for Hi-jacking this one, but just wondering how you got on with Newera as I am considering asking them to look for a car for me.

How long did you wait? What spec, budget etc did you give them?

Just noticed your already subscribed - pm me if you can.

Cheers

Alex.

I would be inclined to check the starter motor mate, and all battery leads for good connection as this can give the same symptoms.

HTH.

19V when eng running might indicate a faulty voltage regulator which is built into the alternator. This in turn will do or has already done in the battery, Faulty starter motor may be possible in addition.

Any competent auto electrician should be able to check this out. But take it back to supplier for rectification. Its their responsibility.

check over the easy things first Rosko battery terminal tightness no corrossion on the terminals etc

check the engine and battery earth , and electrolite levels in the battery cells ,

do you have full lights when trying to start the car or do they dim rapidly when cranking the engine over ??

The lights do not dim, they stay at full brightness, turn the key and it just clicks, then the alarm goes off!

When jump starting the car, when i connect the jump leads the other cars engine revs drop quite considerably, indicating to me that it is putting a big load on the other car. Would you agree?
