JWT Chip

As some of you may already know, I had a Superchip fitted before I joined this forum. Obviously if I had read the comments on here first I wouldn't have touched one with a shitty stick!

If I wanted to change to a JWT chip, what would I need to purchase? I already have bleed valves from the Superchips install to regulate the boost, along with Turbo Technics hybrids, HKS exhaust and de-catted centre pipes.

I suppose what I'm really asking is:

Can I just purchase the chip by itself?

Do Superchips socket the ECU so that I can just slot a new chip in?

Do I need to send my ECU off coz I can't afford to be without a working car?

Cheers everyone.

Mike

About superchip I cannot tell much. The only I think I know is stay away cause the only think they do is to remove the speed limiter.

As for JWT ECU I got one last week.

OK here is the deal. JWT ECU costs about $675 + $500 core depost. That is if you want to keep your stock ECU you have to pay the extra $500.

Now what you can do is order the JWT ECU pay the $675 + $500 and when it arrives you send yours back to JW and you get your $500 deposit back.

Together with the ECU there are also Boosts Jets which raise the boost to 14 PSI.

If you have a boost controller then you dont need them.

As far as I know (not 100% sure) you can also buy just the chip from JW and have someone fit it here in UK for you.

Another think is that everytime you do a major upgrade you have to reprogramme the chip to handle the new upgrades. Thats is if you install lets say 555 injectors and larger turbos your JW ECU needs reprogramming. This means that you have to send it back to the company again and they will do it for you.

I hope this helps

To work out how easy this is going to be you need to take the lid off your ECU and see if Superchips have socket'ed the board. If they have then you can just buy a JWT chip on it's own (or so I'm told) and plug it in.

If not then you'll need to get someone to socket the board for you, unless you're feeling brave/foolhardy ! This normally costs about £20-40, or a bloody fortune if you mess it up yourself !

Any ideas where the JWT chip can be purchased by itself??? Have contacted JWT, and they said you have to send in your ECU......

If it's socketed you're laughing... Providing you insert the chip in the right way round, which is marked, and you disconnect the power it's hard to get it wrong!

have fun...

Call JWT, he used to have a special "I feel sorry for you guys that have been screwed by supershit" price for his chip (even if he certainly does NOT have to.

Call him, you might be pleasantly surprised..

And if you don't know what to do with the Supershit Chip...send it to me....so I'll be able to see if they KEEP modifying only ONE byte in the code....heck..maybe they doubled the effort....

hey if any one is intrested I might have a couple of used reprogramed ecu from

HKS

TOMEI

for like $500 usd

also if you want to deal with a very good japanese person in Japan there is a site called

www.eastbear.co.jp

Alternatively you could go for an SE chip. Better than a JWT in my opinion (I've had both).e.g JWT is set up for californian fuel and emission regs. And SE chip is cheaper I think.

Coogs I paid £225 for my SE chip, and it is awesome!!!

Any contact information for the SE chip anyone? Does anyone else have an opinion of SE versus JWT?

I have a lot of confidence in the knowledge of people at SE, Pete in particular. I have a JWT chip in my car (Coogs old one actually) and am happy with it. However, if you have more specific requirements, or want a chip that is probably better suited to UK fuel, then SE are the best place to start.

There will now follow a small tirade of people who have axes to grind about SE. Those two or three people can form an orderly queue wink.gif

what performance does the se chip give you on a standard uk 1990 zed?? and is this needed when a boost controller is bought later on and air/fuel ratio controller is added??

Before anyone else turns up and puts me down.

I have not had experience of any other chip than SE. But for £200, £100 for chip & £100 for socket and setup, I found the car to respond more snappily and more power at top end. As I discovered my clutch started slipping shortly after the cip was in place. SE chip for 300zx gets my vote.

On 9 psi my car made 313 bhp at flywheel. I cannot tell what the chip made though. See my rides for car details.

Mike, I don't care about this thread or what it's about...you supported me when I needed it and that's enough for me fella! TOP BANANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wink.gif

But i was at the SE day when Pete told us he copied the JWT chip (im sure JWT would be happy)SO basically your getting a fake JWT chip for twice the price biggrin.gif

A JWT copy? I would be very surprised if JWT have not encrypted their chip to prevent the whole world from copying it. Pete's been working some time on his own chip and never mentioned to me he copied the JWT and if he had he'd probably keep quiet about it. Of course pete may well have learned stuff from the JWT chipped cars but that's fair game init? It also drives differently to a JWT chip. And the last I looked JWT wanted around $600 (exchange) for their chip/socket, without any on the car setup. It's a real alternative to JWT.

Point im trying to make, is why try an ecu from a company with (and lets face it, not such a good reputation) when you can get one from very well established companys with years of experience in this.

If it aint broke dont fix it.

1. Where is the ECU located ?

2. How do you check to see if it has been socketed?

3. Can I get a JWT chip in the UK ? (Auto/UK Spec TT)

CheerZ

Pete did not copy the JWT chip. I know which was his 'baseline' and it was from Nissan.

And yes it is possible to copy any EPROM, as you can just about any electronic media.

Thanks for the replies guys. And no worries Timmy, any time!

Does anyone have contact information for SE then so I can give them a call/email?

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

Details are in the 'Contacts & Links' over to your left.

I looked over to my left and all I could see was a geeky computer programmer sat next to me! I'll try clicking on some of these links over here
