Hi folks,

I have been looking around for a Japsports car for a while and the 300ZX is on my short list. I am due to go and view a 92J TT Auto in the next couple of days which I am told is a UK car and not an import. Is there any simple way of confirming this is so? I am particularly after a UK market car if poss as I understand insurance is cheaper and spec. is a little higher...?

Can anyone advise? Apologies if this is a mundane question but the 300ZX is fairly new to me and so I want to make sure I know what I am looking at.

The V5 should also show it as first registered in the UK the same year as manufacture.

'93 UK TT Manual

in the online manual there is a vin plate id guide under the general section i recall this will tell you who what where and when possibly.....:)

You can usually tell a UK car cos it'll be riddled with rust.

(only joking before the Uk-car lads give me a shoeing)

East way just look at the wing mirrors, they are not electric foldaways on the UK Spec Z...

& seatbelts are bolted to the doors on jap motors in the front, & only have lap belts in the rear

Other easy differences to spot....

UK cars have Nissan badges, imports have Z badges on the nose section

UK cars have washer jets for the headlights

UK cars have the normal type rear number-plate and rear fogs in the rear bumper either side of the no-plate. Imports have square rear no-plates and no integral rear fogs

UK cars have a normal 17 digit VIN number - imports have a much shorter number

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

if standard wheels 245 on rear

rear bumper fog light built in

o yes red ones are faster

drivers sun visor has japanese writing on it, something to do with the airbag

PMSL this is turning into a list of every slight little difference between the two models! :D

here's my quick list:

Auto box has the little power/hold switch on jap cars

mine has a sticker on the inside between the targas warning you not to stick your head out! :D

mine also has a japanese road flare thingie clipped in to the passengers footwell, i'll probably get around to throwing it at somebody I dont like one day, 15 year old pyrotechnic anybody? probably perfectly safe! :)

Also boys the indicators are in the inner front lights with the sidelights and the outer front clusters are tinted very dark and are blanks, chassis number on the plate should start JN10RGZ32U I think, all UK cars are twin-turbo 4 seaters and the fuel filler flap is behind the rear wheelarch (which also signifies it's a 4 seater LWB).

are u sure my front seatbelts are attached to the rear panel and i have normal 3-point belts in the back mines a j-spec phase 2

also anouther dead give away for a j-spec yen under the drivers seat and speedo may read in kph unless converted in the church

Look down in the driverside footwell and in the inside of the fusebox cover will be English writing and not Jap...

A mate of mine found a packet of Japanese Condoms and a bit of Jap Newspaper underneath his backseat, so I guess that answered the origins of his car...

Look at the head light glasses,if there is a little nipple type blob on the vissible inside(looks like a stone chip)then its a jap.If not its a UK.
