Just wondering how they get worked out. I've just phoned Houghtons who can't quote me cos I live in a high risk postcode - what the f**k?? I've lived around here all my life and yes there's petty crime but it really isn't a bad area. :(

I think there are worked out using crime stats maybe the whole system needs updating :( Must be annoying for you when others are getting quotes for £250 with the same mods.

lol, are you rubbing that in mate :D £625 elsewhere, I'd just rather give the forum trader my money.

Vijay

my renewal is due on the 7th

I am not having a quote me happy week

everyone is about £250 more expensive than my current insurers price.

including the institute of advanced motorist insurance sceme which was a shame as I was looking forward to that one.

will be on the blower again tomorrow :)

The world's largest insurer by market value is the target of a criminal investigation by the US Justice Department.

American International (AIG) is accused of helping a banking client commit fraud and keep about $762m (£522m) of bad loans off its balance sheet.

big story this it has sparked a huge shakdown in the insurance market and the FSA are in New York getting details...it could see all the cosy deals/kick backs between brokers ended...in real terms lower premiums for drivers....:)

PMSL  :slap:

Vijay i phoned them and they will insure me but for £600 a year!!!!!

Last year it was only £300 as i had a rusty old classic car sitting in a lock up in Ealing which i hadn't started for 4 years but as i decided to sell it hardly anyone will insure me because of the "2nd" car nonsense.

If i had a rusty 2nd car sitting outside doing nothing it would be £300 again!!!!!

Crikey, you must live next door to a prison or something Vijay!

Checked my postcode on the list someone posted earlier and I came up as a D (well, it's Slough afterall - hardly surprising..) - was pleased to get a quote of £350 or so from Haughtons (3000 miles a year policy as a 2nd car)..

Now I just need to a) find £20 to subscribe again, b) find £350 to insure it again and c) find some money to fix it.. oh, best I don't forget the tax & MOT..

B*gger..

Have you tried Firebond Vijay? Mine is about 350 fully comp but that's on a classic policy which suits me coz it has never done more than a few thousand miles per annum since I've owned it! LOL :D That's with every single mod declared aswell.

Chester Post code and only £245 fully comp. Its a Jap, and modding it makes little, if any difference in insurance.

I spoke to Houghtons as well and they wont insure me either (SE2 postcode), unless i want to pay £1300!!

Got me on the fact that the car is parked on the street. :(

Am gonna try that Firebond place that someone recommended but apart from that the best quote i have had so far is £936 from Norwich Union Direct.

You could try a company called A-Plan on 0845 0711234

I've got it down to £590 F/C 5000 per year parked on a drive...

Insurance is completly unfair can we not have some sort of club insurance sorted out very very cheap!!!!

I had a Porsche 928 4.7 litre car and it was only £220 a year a huge very fast automatic yet so much cheaper.

We need real classic insurance at real classic insurance prices.....

LOL :D

Don't always think that you save that much with proper "Club" insurance schemes. I'm a member of the mr2dc and I ended up insuring the Mr. 2 Tubby through them and it was still 750 squids a year. :(

I'm not sure that's really possible these days - some clubs can manage it purely through clout/member numbers or manufacturer tie-ins.. but we're too small really and we drive a niche-market car from a mainstream manufacturer..

Insurance seems to be such a lottery that whatever company the club went with is bound to be cheap for some and expensive for others - that's why they're cheap for some (the narrower a demographic they are cheap for, the cheaper they are for that demographic usually)

Anyway, I'm waffling. Haughtons seem to be doing a good job for a fair number of subscribers, which is probably all we can hope for..

Same here mate - in fact they wanted £900 or so for my Roadster, and they wouldn't do business class cover.. Neither would Toyota Insurance or Adrian Flux.. only Bell Direct would in the end - £850 a year FC with 6yrs NCB..

Well I tried to get insured with Houghtons last time and for a 24 year old risk area A ( ) 9,000 miles a year standard uk spec apart from exhaust and filter they charged 740! Which was dearer than Adrian Flux who I was already with. I have a clean lisence and 7 years ncb.
