Simple question, how long should I drive carefully until I can play? 1 or two minutes or longer?

I want to look after her as much as I can, so thought I'd ask how long you guys leave it until you mash the fun pedal :p

Up to operating temp. I wait till needle is up to normal level. Also as important to let car idle before you switch off if you've been booting it. Either via a turbo timer or just sit in the car for a couple of mins and/or drive off boost.

I wait until the engine gets up it's normal operating temperature and check all other guages. I check the oil pressure is ok and oil temp (aftermarket gauges)

If all is well, then off we go.

Nissan manual also says to let car idle 30 seconds before pulling away from a cold start.

Damn .. beat me to it James.

Good point about letting the turbos spin down though. I always leaveher idling for a couple of mins if I have just been booting it, otherwise I chill my driving down and drive without boosting for a few mins. If it is hot I also open the bonnet to aid cooling.

Ok, that's what I've been doing so that's ok. I have a Turbo Timer which is switchable between 1 and 3 minutes, so got that covered. It's funny to watch people's expressions when you lock the car up and the engine's still running lol

Yeah, I love the look on peoples faces........."Ere, that bloke's left his engine running!"

Not to Hijack this thread but does anyone know if there are certain alarms that a turbo timer won't work with? .. I have a alarm and a seperate immobiliser fitted.

I have an oil temperature gauge (which I can strongly recommend) and it can take up to 15 minutes before the engine (oil) is at operating temperature.

Normally it takes at least 10 minutes for the oil to reach around 75 Celcius

So I wouldn't start to play within the first 10 minutes.. ;)

Good question mate and one which worried me when i had my turbo timer fitted. At least be informed that an ApexI timer works with an Ai606 ;)

Dave, any details as to what is required for this to work? Do Toad supply an additional module or is it an Apexi issue?

Neither Steve AFAIK. The 606 had been in the car since it arrived in the UK, and the timer went in about a month ago. Seem to work fine with eachother (wasnt me that fitted either of them unfortunately)

So do you still arm the 606 (lock doors etc..) while the timer is running then and is the immobiliser circuit still active (or is it on a delay)? Just interested as I've got a 606 and have always avoided the timers because of supposed problems with the immobiliser..

Thanks for any info bud!

I'm sure Bob (safe and sound) said it was easily done with a couple of relays. Might be worth posting in his forum :)

Ive just had a G5 Clifford 950 fitted and that dont work with my turbo timer, i get out with the turbo timer on then have to put the alarm in valet mode to lock her then put her back into normal mode, when the turbo timer shuts the car off then after a min the alarm will arm itself so however long the car is running for its not alarmed and its counted down from 8mins before

If you buy a clifford concept 300 or 500 etc and get remote start with it (about 550 fully fitted with a 300) it has a built in turbo timer! thats what im looking at for mine (money providing that is!) and its still clased as cat 1! so insurance still loves you :)

TBH Steve ive not really had a chance to try out all 'scenarios' if you know what i mean, but basically i set the counter for 20 secs, leave the car and remote lock it. unit continues to idle then cut out ok. alarm doesnt sound, immobiliser light goes red ok (maybe i should try leaving the timer for 2/3 mins and see if that might cause a problem). A cool function of this unit (other makes may have it as well) is that should you try to drive away while the unit is counting down - take off the handbrake and the engine cuts out straight away

I'll have a crack at leaving the timer on longer today if i remember.

You want to leave caning it really for a minimum of 10 minutes, 15 would be ideal, then everythings at the proper temps. This is even more true for the auto box as it restricts the final gear until its happy with the fluid temperature and thats around 15 minutes.
