Guest Jeff TT Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Probably due to it been Summer time ( allegedly ) seem to have seen a high incidence of zeds suffering from rattling drivers window when the window is half way down, the cause is due to the nut securing the window rail has come undone or in most cases I have dealt with has gone completely. To access the correct nut lower the window down and from outside the door you can see a round black access disc in the black plastic area at the rear/top of the door pillar, remove the disc and you can see a screw which holds the pillar trim to the inside of the door, when removing the screw take care not to drop into the door. Now pull the trim away from the inside of the door and unclip the bottom of the panel. About half way up the pillar you will see a black piece of foam backed tape which is covering a hole over, remove this, you will now see either the loose nut and tighten it or no nut just a thread, fit a 10 mm nut over it and tighten up. Replace all the trim in reverse order, this will cure the window rattle completely, it also worth noting that behind the main door trim the window rail has adjusting grub screws to line up the window so if you have a window that gets tight as it is lowered or bangs as it is lowered then they may need resetting. Guest sypheous Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Top advise, wondered what that was specially when you closed the door, it rattles like a *******. Quote
Clarkey Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 nice tip Jeff, both the windows rattle on our zed (not that it goes anywhere lol) the passenger side one more so, I guess the drivers one might have been fixed before. I presume the same method applies to the passenger side? Quote
Simax Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Thanks for that Jeff, another minor niggle dealt with. Simon. Quote
Clarkey Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 ok I just had a look at this, and there doesnt appear to be any screw behind this access disc, only a hole through which you can see the back of the seatbelt mounting bolt, is it different on the jap spec ones with the belt on the door? Quote
stevemochan Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Look further up above the seatbelt youl see a gold screw/bolt. Quote
billynomates Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 this post is from AUGUST and i still ain't done it lol Quote

On the early Jap cars you have to remove the seat belt top fixing to get the interior capping off of the door post. Other wise it is the same.. Chris.. Quote
Yowser Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I checked this on mine a few weeks ago, and the bolts are tight. Is there something else to adjust/check to stop them rattling when they are open and you shut the door ? Quote
Chrissy P Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I checked this on mine a few weeks ago, and the bolts are tight. Is there something else to adjust/check to stop them rattling when they are open and you shut the door ? The nut that has been spoken about here is in the door piller and holds a plastic guide wheel, there is also one at the front of the window just above the inside door handle. The other points to check are the fixing bolts at the botom edge of the glass. This means removing the door card, you can get to the bolts by mooving the window down a little so you can see the bolts. While the door card is off. You should also look at the large metal stopper that is bolted to the glass close to the back end of the window, It could be that it is this that is making the noise and not the window at all..
