Any body in the southend/basildon area got a 12V impact wrench???

 

Rounded off one of the bolts only slightly but enough the cause slippage when applying pressure with the BIG bar that Takemetothepub brough round tonight :shock: , to help gain the leaverage that was needed to crack the nut.

But we got one off, so now i have:

 

1 Z in the air :eek:

1 Rear Shock on and not coming off without a fight :nono:

1 rear shock banished to the rubbish pile :D

 

Need to get this done asap as i miss the smile she gives me :cry: , and dont wanna drive about in a 1.8 escort, that has no guts and a 0 - 60 time of about a week :rofl:

Got a compressor and 6bar 230lb rachet gun, was gonna tell you to come to me if you want and ill do it then read your cars half apart further down lol.

12v impact wrench wouldnt do it I reckon as couldnt undo a siezed, besides, the socket has rounded it so it will always be rounded. Never tried it thiough as always been spoilt wiv compressed air typ o stuff.

Trouble is you cant normally get the next one down to fit, I always used to bodge it with an imperial size which is sort of in between..? (big hammer to get it on) will have to replace the fixing after but have got away with it so many times..haver u tried heat, this might expand the relevant bolt or nut which will crack the thread as the relevant parts will heat up at different rates (but I bet u cant get at them to apply heat?) .If u get stuck will have a go when we sort the bumper thing (Sunday perhaps...but been a bit busy over last few weeks)..will be in touch mate.

Can you get to the nut to get a (small) grinder or hacksaw on it? - If you can crack the nut using either of these it should then come off pretty easily - you need to be careful to not damage the thread, mind..... Sounds like you need a new nut anyway!

or you can bang a 9mm socket onto a 10mm nut with a big hammer and hope that works :)

1st. Canvey Island is near southend :D

3rd Yes a new nut/bolt is going to be require :(

4th bolt end is knackered, nut is fine ;)

5th havn't tried a nut splitter/cracker yet :eek:

6th the nut/bolt is 17mm :D

7th can get to it to cut the F***er off and will prob do that. :mad:

Sucsess, using the same method as getting the other side off, except did it from under neather the car, only moving about 1/8 of a thread at a time using a bar from my hammock, knew they would come in use for something else :D

glad it worked out....my dad an me always give really stuck items a quick blast of the blow torch... a handy investment for any tool box
