I can't believe my series 2 PTU has gone faulty so looking at other things.

Would a faulty CAS make the car miss and hold back like there's intermitant sparks?

Sometimes the car goes like a train for a second then it almost stalls and cuts out.

It runs so rough it can hardly climb a hill sometimes then it's off again.

It just feels like it's only getting sparks half the time.

 

I've cleaned everything and tried a different MAF.

A faulty CAS can cause those problems as well and there's quite an easy way to tell if the CAS causes the problem or not.

 

Once the stumbling/misfires/whatever start, keep the car in gear and have a good look at the the tacho and see if the needle bounces down to 0 and back to it's original RPM very quickly.

if that's the case, it's almost certainly a CAS related problem (connector/wiring/CAS)

Does it do this around 4k rpm by any chace ?

Ok if you are just increasing speed slowly or cruising but when you put your foot down it just drops the power ?.

 

Does it do it mostly after it has rained for a while ?

Yes it all started after this very heavy rain last week. The first time it went away but after more rain a few days later it did it again and it hasn't gone away.

It's lumpy at all revs and seems very random. Sometimes it clears for a couple of seconds but that's it.

It does seem worse when you put your foot down. When pulling away steadily it seems OK.

I have noticed the rev counter moving about in jumps sometimes and it doesn't always seem to keep up with the sound of the engine.

The revs seem to be rising but the needle seems to be lagging behind?

I thought my clutch was slipping at first as I've just adjusted it.

 

I have a spare one on my old engine at my parents.

How easy are they to change?

I've checked and cleaned the connector (it was very clean anyway) so I think it must be the sensor or the wiring.

Where does the wiring run to? Straight to the ECU?

Wild guess this, but remove the coilpack connectors and check for water down there ;) If the CAS was faulty the ECU would keep cutting the fuel pump when it wasn't getting a signal...

not the good old air mass sensor is it?

 

this can cause the car to feel extremely "flat" with lack of power

Tried a new air sensor as it says in the first post ;) LOL

 

I took the front 4 coil packs off yesterday and there's no sign of any water.

I can't see it being water in them a week after it rained...

doh! :slap:

Checked the injector connectors?????
