Do you get a lot of heat coming from the gearbox/center console/hand brake.

Drove to and from Alton Towers today and it seems to get rather warm. Also, after a it is hot sometimes selecting 1st and occasionally 2nd gear is a bit stiff.

Any ideas guys

yep i get heat from the gearbox theres obviously a lot of movement friction=heat so i think thats normal unless someone else likes to comment, every part of the car gets hot  like driving around in turkey with no air-con

hows your clutch does it slip at all i spose it could be syncro wear or clutch is reverse a pain to engage sometimes as mine is think clutch is slowly on its way out£££££££££

to be honest paul gears were a little bit difficult to engage at times,so changed gearbox oil and put a gearbox treatment in with the oil and it seems to have made gears smoother, apparently the 300 manual box is v.strong and lasts well if looked after.so i read

how many miles on clock! and when was clutch changed if it has

greg

put some redlione MT90 gear oil in it, i've for no experience of it but ive heard it works wonders for the box

For what it's worth

I drove 100 miles to pick mine up and I noticed a lot of heat from the tunnel on the way home............

But I'm used to it now...so never bothered about it again.

sorry m8, no help at all :slap:

cats explain the heat then. it's an import and theres 77 odd k on the clock, not much history with it and no mention of clutch or gear oil change, may give redlione MT90 a try, is it expensive, readily available ?

You'll be able to find REDLINE MT90 much easier ;)

Found out why gear selection was difficult.

The other day the garstick almost completely came out in my hand and I was stuck in 2nd. Limped home and took the plastic cover off. There was a nut missing of the top of the plate that holds the gear stick ball and socket assembly in (towards the front) and the rear part (think its a stud with a nut underneath) the metal had torn and the whole assembly was loose. So I've just fitted the missing nut and I'm going to get the torn part wlded back up.

clutch seems to be fine although sometimes thats a bit stiff and i get a click/creak when i press the pedal down

my clutch creaks everytime....dunno whether it needs a new cable....i also get heat and the box is quite stiff...i just thought this was the norm....its the first Z ive owned

My Z is an auto and gets massively hot from the centre console when driving. I am sure it will be good in Winter but at the moment you HAVE do drive with windows down to stop from toasting

If you have a look at this pic, you'll see the positioning of the cats, and zorsts in general, right under the center tunnel. hence the high temp, but make sure that your deflector plates are inplace.
