Seeking advice...

Very new member here; just in the last dying throws of purchasing my first zed! Looking for an operators manual for jap tt - worked out most things during test drives but auto box is still a mystery... I take it 'overdrive' puts the car into 4 wheel steer mode? What is the a/t button for? Any advise greatly appreciated

smile.gifAdded since Paul's reply; Also wanted to know why does the zed I'm buying have only 105 MPH top speed showing on the UK dial conversion instead of 180!? And the boost dial shows +7 -7 instead of +14 -14.... I eagerly await you all waking from your beds

Welcome to Z land biggrin.gif

Your car is permanently in 4 wheel steer mode it has nothing to do with the overdrive switch. I know nothing about autos cos mines a manual but our mass of auto owners will soon be here to tell you. We dont use the grotty little operators manuals here, we use the 'full monty' workshop manual on cd rom. If you want one, myself or many of the others will be happy to post you one.

See ya

Welcome welcome welcome and er welcome. You have done it now, good to see another driver who realises the sense and performance gains of an auto!!!

Seriously, the jap spec auto box on the zed is like no other car`s auto box, been completely proccesser controlled and with more control than the Uk spec ones.Firstly you will need to get to know the box and its characteristics to be comfortable with it. The overdrive switch is handy for engine braking into bends the 3 position switch is as follows ::: Hold = pulls away in second (good for ice etc or long haul motorway drives)gear moves up to next gear asap and stays in top gear as long as possible. :::Sport mode full gear range with high revs change up,will also change down sooner. ::middle position:: best of both modes full gear range not so high revs change but in kick down will enter sport mode for 10 seconds or so. also when in kick down sports mode the air con is switched off for about 10 seconds to help give full power.

When you have learn`t the box you will find a happy meduim between relaxed and full on driving yourself.I love the auto (on my second) just be aware that sport and kick down = high petrol consumption!! more OPTIMAX required (Think I need a lie down now )Jeff TT

Ps Leave the speedo question to some one else

Hi T3rbo

Re: your speedo, the Japanese Z's are speed restricted to ~110mph, so whoever swapped your dials opted for a low-speed-range set. Get yourself a new ECU chip (and new dials!) to get up into the ~150mph range smile.gif

As for the boost gauge, the imports measure boost pressure in mmHg (millimeters of mercury) x100. Just so happens that 700mmHg roughly equals 14psi.

your 105 mph speedo will be a stick on face which is the cheapest way to convert it. You will probably find your car still has its limiter and wont go over 115 mph..You could peel off the sticky face and the origional 180 kmh dial should be underneath.

I have a brand new unopened converter for sale if you want one, it will convert your 180 kmh clock to 180 mph and remove the top speed limiter, only 4 wires to connect, They are £100 new, I will sell it for £60.

I would personally leave the limiter on because its very naughty to exceed 70 mph and I cant condone that sort of behaviour biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Paul

ps stock boost gauges are crap anyway and most people add an aftermarket one

i see - can a performance/tuning company de restrict to save buying another ecu (sounds v expensive) and if so where do I get 180mph dial from?

That would be ideal.... I'll wait until Monday (when I finalize insurance) but definately intersested; do you have easy fitting instructions (not really car maitenance minded!) Absolutely need to de restrict as I tend to go into 3rd gear sometimes!!!!!!
