Hello,

Took the car for a 1 mile drive this morning driving off boost.

Got home about 3 mins later all smoke?? Steam?? started coming from the engine between battery??? Could hear a dripping sound then the sizzling (noise as if liquid oil/water landing on something hot) then the steam or smoke??

Anyone have any ideas what pipes are down there that could have burst??

Will take it for a drive tonight and see if it does it again.

Thanks all.

Ant

sound like a coolant pipe has cracked/pin-holed...usually happens when you switch off as the coolant soaks up the engine heat and blows it way out...mine has the same prob but i only lose half a tea-cup full...will sort it after the hols

Lots of skin!

It's only a couple of quid for the pipe but it's a pain in the arse to change.

So its something i can do myself then??

Just checked the water and thats full and so is the oil, it was definately water that was leaking just seems strange it hasnt gone down??

So where exactly is this pipe and how do i get to it to see if it has split??

Thanks again

Ant

the coolant system has 10 litres in it so to lose a cupful will hardly show up...as to the exact location of the pipe...there are some pics posted on here but i'll be dammed if i can find 'em....anyone know where they are?

Hi Ant

I have a similar situation with my Zed, but I have lost no coolant whatsoever over the last 6 months / 4000 miles....

....I traced it to condensation dripping from an air-con hose (covered in a tin-foil like substance) that runs into the bulkhead just below the battery. On hot days it is more frequent....

The condensation drips into either the exhaust manifold or l/h turbo, causing the hissing - not seen any steam, though.....

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Also check the pipes on the back of the plenum, thats where i got a leak, just a case of putting a new one on and yes you will lose some skin putting them back on ;)

first decide if its oil or steam...

On mine it was the heater matrix hose (theres two of them) at the back by the battery - 15 quid each Nissan UK
