Cheers Steve, do you think it will do much damage to the sills over a week. Can only have a go at it after work

Mike would you recommend leaving it on stands for a week or take it down over after working on it??

Cheers

i really only damaged mine by removing them, as they sliped slightly when one side was let down, of course you have to ensure that no damage is being caused or that they havnt slipped at all which could be nasty if you ar eunder it.

I've had mine up on stands for about a month with no major damage... Don't do what I did and jack it up using the the oil sump though! :nelson:

Cheers Mike. I will give it a go. Just 'seem's' a funny place to put stands because of the engine weight.

Erm thats not the sills its the rails under the car! Don't put your car on its sills - you'll be replacing them in 12 months lol.

Thanks Andy. Learn somthing new everyday ;)

use a piece of wood in between the axle stand and sill.

Vijay

NO!!! Just don't use the sills! LOL Use the points marked on the service manual diagram and you won't damage your car. Jack it on its sills, you'll break the seam welds, the sills will rust, and you'll be replacing them in 12 months...

to clarify what andy is saying, if you look under the car, at the side, you will find the sill at the bottom of the panel, look further under the car and you will see a flat rail about 2 inches across that runs nearly the length of the car. Thats where you should put your stands.

........you'll also see that it slopes upwards as it approaches the engine bay bulkhead - just before the taper is the strongest area for supporting - the further back you go it seems to get softer - so use the most forward FLAT part of that rail that you can :)

We'll get there eventually LOL

Can someone come and pour me a drive so I've got somewhere to put the other end of the axle stands? :D

Don't fancy going under a car on cobblestones...

if you get yourself a couple of pieces of wood, a foot square x 1/2 inch thick, you should be ok
