hi all,

As most of you know the Zed got written off.

The insurance company, phoned this morning to tell me in checked with the DVLA and he says it an import so only going to give me £3700.

Thats *****cks, as my car is a UK model with full service history from the dealership to begin with. It has the standard bigger wheels on the back, front and back UK bumpers.

The cars even the UK models were made in Japan, so of course when they come over here they are coming from another country (import).

Perhaps the first owner went to japan and got it, I do not know.

Is there any other difference's between Jap Import and UK, as I need to tell this engineer from the insurance company it is a UK model not a Jap (Gray Import).

Bloody insurance companys.

cheers, Alastair.

The DVLA can supply you with all the documetation they have on this vehicle, ie; the registration documents right back to when it was first registered. If it came from a UK Nissan dealer (ie a UK model) then their name and decleation that it was sold as a 1st sale, will be on the form. DVLA may charge you for this, but well worth it. As you cant otherwise prove, for deffinate, that it is a UK car just by saying that it has this or that on it.

Thanks steve, I am know going to phone him. Will post the results!

More info on AndyP's site However, I think you may have to go Dave's route for a definitive answer.. :( Tell your insurance comopany that if you are forced to do this you will be claiming compensation from them ;)

Loads of detail differences. Look for the diff oil cooler. offside rear between the diff and wheel high up. Only euro cars had this. But bumpers surely confirm it anyway with long numberplate on the rear. Nobody would go to the expense of changing this to just make an import look UK.

Look under the car, drivers side, just in front of the rear axle, there should be a small radiator for the gearbox oil... Another difference, are the seat belts on the doors or on the B-pillar? The VIN plate will have the chassis number on it - you can tell from this whether or not it is a UK car...

The engineer said 'The car was used in Japan for a year, then imported to the UK'.

Why someone in Japan got a UK Model has confused me.

From £3700 After Excess there will be enough money to buy a normal car

If thats the case it can't be a UK car

Suppose a Brit working in Japan bought a UK spec car in Japan used it for a year then brought it back with him to avoid UK VAT etc. he would also have to be the first registered keeper in UK and keep it another year in UK to avoid the tax.

Then it's be an imported UK spec car so should still be valued at the higher UK spec.

The engineer said he is valued it at import price, even as if its a UK model.

Check your log book. It should say something like 'declared new at first registration' if it was originally supplied by a UK Nissan dealer. May be worth checking with the DVLA anyway just in case the insurance people have got it wrong...

Just sounds like an excuse to pay out less to me :xxx:

The import and UK spec chassis numbers are different, different number of digits I think .... Can't remember for certain right now though.

Ask Nissan to whether your chassis number is a UK or not. If it is get it in writing from Nissan that the car is a UK spec.

LOL I wouldn't do that if I were you - according to Nissan, they couldn't get bits for my car cos its an import... Yeah course it is  Stupid ****ing ****s :xxx:

FFS! Deffo check the chassis number. Your insurance company is taking the p1ss on this! IIRC the UK model sold for about £10,000 more than the Jap when they were available new in their respective countries. Why the f*ck would someone pay more for a UK spec when there were loads of JDM models available in Japan?!

This stinks - I'm sure that they are hoping you will get fed up and walk away. PM me your chassis number if you want Alastair and I'll have a word with someone I know at my local main dealer...

This is Rubbish.

Does it have the following?.

Seat belts mounted directly on the drivers and passenger doors ?

little reflectors on the side of the back bumper ?

Indicators in the front corner lights ?

Front square fog lights ?

A Z logo on the headlight panel ?

the same size tyres all the way round the car ?

Japanese writing on the inside of the fuse box on the right hand size of the drivers footwell ?

Folding wing Mirrors ?

KPH clocks ?

If so then it's Japanese.

If not then it's a UK model simple as that !.

Don't give up mate, I guess like most of us you have paid insurance for a long time. You deserve to be paid in full.

LOL I wouldn't do that if I were you - according to Nissan, they couldn't get bits for my car cos its an import... Yeah course it is  Stupid ****ing ****s :xxx:

I must be quite lucky at my Nissan dealers. Never had any problems getting parts. They looked at my chassis number once to find confirm whether it was a UK or Import.

Yeah thats exactly what they did with me Stuart - then told me it was an import LMFFFAO :D Well, yes, I suppose it *WAS* strictly made in Japan, but so was my microwave - is that an import too??? :D

Have a look at page 18 in the General info section of the online manual. If the last character of the vin number is a Q then it's European. (and I suppose if the steering wheel's on the right that means UK!)

Colin

Erm, not entirely true, Japan drive on the left too ;) Hence our desire for cars from Japan and not places closer to home ;)

Is the car auto or manual? If its auto it will have the power switch on it if its J spec ;)

Surely if it was an import and you insured it as a uk spec, then the insurance company wouldn`t pay out. Due to the fact that the policy holder didn`t declare the correct vehicle. You know what insurance companies are like, they`ll try and get out of paying. Yet they are willing to pay out on an import  . Just a thought.

That is a very good point :)

UK cars have 17 digit vin numbers whereas jap cars vin numbers are about half as long. The V5 should be the clincher - as someone has already said it would say "declared new at first registration" if it is a UK car.

Imports say something like "vehicle previously used overseas"

Good luck, mate

Richard :(

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

did the dealer tell you it was uk when you bought it??
