Looking for a Z mechanic in and around Reading or Berkshire.

Mike very kindly put me in touch with Peter at PPS, but he is proving difficult to get hold of. Anyone know of anybody elese?

My Z blew a water hose the other day and a local chap fixed that, but now it is all back together, it is running like a dog- sounds as if its not firing on one or more cylinders. What do any of you guys think- does it sound like I have cooked the engine or does it sound more like it hasnt been put back together incorrectly and possibly an electrical or fuel problem?

Also have air-con pulley that needs fitting to stop the annoying squeak.

Need help fast as have had the Z off the road for 5 weeks and now its back on my drive, 450 quid worse off and cant use it! Looks like I'm demoted to the 1.3 Honda Civic for a little longer :(

Thanks

Alan

Where did you get the rad hose fixed? was it a mate or a garage that did it? You could always take it back but you know they are going to say its nothing to do with what they done. PPS is a bodyshop/ICE place and its a long long way from you so I would try to find someone local on the forum to look for ya.

Yea it was a local guy in Caversham. Apparantly it was a real bitch of a job- a hose right at the back of the engine down in the V. It took him nearly 6 weeks to do that, so dont really want to take it back to him again. Need to get it turned around quick. I didnt think PPS was that far away- only about 7 miles the other side of town to me.

Difficult to say if it was not put back together correctly. I was only half a mile away when the hose went and the temp didnt go up to high. Then let it rest for half an hour at my gaff and then re-filled with water to go the other half mile to this guy and at that point it still ran well so think either he cooked it trying to move it round to his mates when they put it up on ramps or he's missed/broke something putting it back together. Just need an expert now to give me the full verdict on the car as have a few other concerns as well with gearbox etc...

Paid 4k for this import pile of junk- now wishing I visted this site and studied everything before rusing out and buying.

Sounds like the PTU, coil pack or injector is not connected right to me, try wrigleing the connectors with the engine running and see if it makes a differance.

Cheers Matthew- its kinda what I thought and did give a wiggle yesterday, but rains now stopped so will get out there now and check it out again.

Theres a good chance something hasnt been put back properly. Possibly some of the vaccum hoses or electrical connectors. Its a good idea to park your car next to another Z and compare under the bonnet, its very easy to put one of those many pipes back in the wrong place when re-fitting all the bits n bobs.

yep, I think you are all on the right track. Just been out and prodded it and on a couple of the electrical connections when you prod em, the engine idle does change. Started to pour down again :(

Gonna undo the alan-key bolts on the top plate to get a better look.

Not quite a fully fledged memeber of the z-club as yet and dont know any z guys round here. Did see a black Z down the hill from me the other day. Will have to knock and see if hes friendly. Rains stopped again so back out I go

...and HEY PRESTO- z fixed! Waggled those connections on top of the injectors and she smoothed right out. Just been and teared up the tarmac round the village and you can imagine what its like after 6 weeks of hire car Micra's and my mums old civic!

Looks like I will have to replace all the connection blocks as they are all old and ropey and its likely to happen again. Also tempted to get £50 back off the repair bill from the guy who done the hose and couldnt be bothered to test it before giving it back.

Now time to save back up the cash to do all the other jobs on the old gal.

Thanks for all your help and support. My depression is now lifted!

p.s. Would be still good to find a local Z expert in Reading so let me know eh

Hello matey,

I'm ''reasonably'' local to you, i use & recommend

a guy in Hanney, Nr Wantage.

His Co is called ''Motovation'', he has been looking

after 3 Z's, not a trained Z mechanic (but who is?).

Had no probs with him so far.

Contact him on 01235867455.

His name is Brad.

...and HEY PRESTO tempted to get £50 back off the repair bill from the guy who done the hose and couldnt be bothered to test it before giving it back.

And when you do.........

Thanks for those contacts guys. Hopefully wont need to contact them in an emergency, but once my bank balance has recovered, heres what I gotta get done-

Fit air-con pulley to get rid of annoying birdy squeak

Get clocks changed and speed limiter- boost gauge not working.

Autobox needs looking at/replacing. Very lazy changing gears. Any ideas? perhaps an oil change/treatment?

Wont drive straight- probably been lowered so need that sorting.

No history whatsoever so full service, plugs- perhaps cambelt & waterpump.

I think thats enough to be getting on with- sure I'll think of some more.

Matty- I wouldnt be-grudge the 20 quid to join- i am sure I could find out but I'm lazy so could you tell me the benefits of joining. Cheers.

I'm sure one day my crap jap import that I got ripped off on will soon be prize Z. Rapidly realising a Z is for life- not just for Christmas
