Hi All,

It's been a while since my last post... Damn it feels like a confession to the local vicar!! :D

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could advise me on 2 things...

1. How much of an increase in insurance is an import verses a UK. I know there are variations but a rough estimate would be great...

2. What alternatives are there for putting fog lights on import cars... I cdan't remember where the UK car rear fog light is....

Cheers chaps...

Hi Ben,

The difference was roughly £300 for me, 30y/o, dirty license, garaged, classic policy limited to 6000miles.

UK rear fogs...................

In reverse order,

UK fogs are in rear bumper (which looks poo IMO) you can do my trick and fit a hi level brake light under the rear bumper that folds down for MOT time, cost £10 ish, but you must put an indicator light which lights up inside the cabin when the fog is on, without this it shouldnt pass an MOT

Insurance is not too bad for imports, prob an extra 20% sometimes less, than the UK ones, bits are just as easy to source so no worries there, only other thing to remember with the insurance thing is most insurers will want cat 2 imob on a UK car on a Jap they want a tracker which will set you back £300 plus £100 a year subs.

On the plus side the Jap wont be as rotten as a corpse!!!!

Mine is a 1992 n/a import, Im insured with direct line, one car only, 10,000 miles per year, car parked on driveway, use car daily, £346 fully comp.

A few months ago when I was considering switching to a turbo, I contacted them for a quote on a turbo import (and I stressed import) ......I asked them to be sure, so they check with their technical department and called me back with the quote, "no change in price" they said it was in the same group. Only a few months ago they told me it would be £40 more on my n/a for a K & N Induction kit............does that make sense, no change in price to go to a TT, but put on an induction kit and it will cost me more.

i got a 90 n/a import had a supra before that and the insurance was £345 fully comp garaged 5000 miles a year same company Aplan wanted £835 for the same cover plus £500 access so i rang houghton insurance and now pay £158 plus £15 for extra legal cover and now the access is £100 how bads that

To be insured on an import was going to cost me £1900 :nono:

Got a UK £695

Garaged, 3 years no-claims, age 28

would'nt have got the car if I could'nt find a UK model

Trust you Shrimpy not to miss a chance to sell yours....

As much as I like your car, 2 problems.

1. It's Red - Wife hates RED!!

2. It's more than I want/can spend.............. and it's red!! :D

I think driver age has a lot to do with it...

In my opinion it should be the same price... It's the same car!!!

Stupid insurance companies.. Might have a word with my current insurance company and see what the news is....!

for insurance on my import turbo i am paying 1900 fully comp though adrian flux all they required was a cat 1 alarm and imob,

21 y/o, 3 years no claims, garaged, 12000 miles.

Hi Ben

You returning to ZX ownership then? It's obviously too addictive and you have withdrawal symptoms

If you're lucky, some insurers won't charge more for an import. IIRC Houghtons don't - they didn't on my Supra. Like you say it's the same car but insurers are greedy fekkers and make the rules up as they go along

Richard :)

ps still enjoying the book

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm with DirectLine and when I called them they said there is no difference whether its an import or not. Got mine for about £420 with breakdown cover.

Their websites pretty good as you can add or remove features and if you remove all the extras you can good a good deal.

AL

I'm 24 and it only cost me £590 fully comp on my Import TT.

Hi I added mine to my 240Z classic insurance and paid 149 quid for the six months remaining @ 3000 miles

mines an import, 1990 insurance cost me 451 fully comp with all bells and whistles!! no tracker but thatcham cat 1. Am 31 full NCB

so....

uk175/chunk,

Who have you used for your classic policy? My insurance is due soon, I'm currently with Adrian Flux who gave me the best quote at the time of £1800 - 26 y.o 6000 miles, garaged, thatcham 1 alaram/immob.

Cheers

John
