November 02, I decided to buy an uprated Clutch because the standard one was slipping like a bitch! Anyway, at the time, I was organizing a group buy for some nice Z pedals and the guy mentioned that he did clutches so after agreeing on a price,I went for the RPS Street Racer clutch which apparently could take up to 450BHP. :xxx:

Therefore, as I was not intending on taking the Z up to that much, it seemed like the ideal choice. However, some of you may have read thread that I posted about me wasting a Megane Turbo, well after that venture, I could not chance gear and ended being stuck up a hill on a set of lights.

Anyway, I cut to the chase. After assuming that the problem lay with either the Master or slave clutch cylinder, it turns out that the it was part of the clutch. So I won't say much more than, take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. Is this a one off manufacturing fault, or do you reckon that RPS are mis-marketing their products? :x:

I know it sounds stupid, but was the plate put in the right way round?

I would assume so. It was in for over a year and worked fine until last week.

looks from that rivet that it's been hitting something, it shouldn't do that obviously. :(

does it say 'flywheel side' on it anywhere? My AP does.

Have you contacted RPS?

I'd say, although a rough pissed guess, that this side is the gearbox side...

I have sent an email to the supplier and he is going to contact RPS. However, I am also going to send them an email with pictures attached and ask them to explain why that would happen and then decide whether to ask for compensation.

I have just bought a RPS Street Racer clutch off Smithy - which I still have to fit. When I unpacked it to compare it with your picture, the clutch plate is a different design. Is it possible that they have upgraded this? I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Do you have any pics of yours. Am interested to what the differences are.

I really don't know what to do now Cos  You are the third person this week to have problems with RPS clutches:(

i know it doesnt help your situation, but i have the RPS street cluch with about 400bhp & find it extremely good.

i agree with Jezz, it appears that the centre plate has been fouling on something - did you strip it?? is there any other damage to the flywheel or clutch cover?

Not to open a can of worms, but do a search on twinturbo.net and you'll soon find you're not the only with this problem.

Spring retainer breakage apparently is a pretty "common" fault of the RPS street clutch, because they use stock discs that are not up to the job.

RPS now has redesigned their street clutch and no longer use OEM disc's.

Not sure where you bought the clutch, but in the US and for those that had the same problem, the disk was replaced by RPS free of charge.

hmm, funny you should say that eric - andyp always said the centre plate was stock, when i bought mine from smithy about 18months or so ago, it certainly wasnt a standard nissan plate!

However back then it was really only common on those Zeds that were pretty close to the limit of the unit OR did really thrash it.

Out of over 100 units i've sold only 1 reported a spring breakage and that was 16 months after real abuse as he uses the Zed to perform regular bunouts and doughnuts etc at car shows and Max power.

Dunno what spec Cos has, but from looking at the pics it appears more than simple failure on the disc's part, something just ain't right.

As for Carbon carbon Mac, your kit is nothing like what's mentioned here and RPS in their effort to put their money where their mouth is, they will rebuild any carbon carbon clutch kit for FREE if by some miracle the owner can wear it down in 12 months of any kind of use.

Finally if anyone is a little worried after Mac's and Cos's post, if you purchase your RPS from me then you've no need to be, i stand by these 100% and will back up ANY customer issue with regards a fault and with 1 out of over 100 i've supplied, am happy

p.s cheers Paul. C :)

Smithy I read that they will put their money where there mouth is,but to pay 1.5k for a clutch I would expect nothing less.

Smithy - Was the replacement one I got from you the updated version?

Another one in defence of RPS - my old centre plate had hairline cracks in the friction plate  but the new centre plate from Smithy is a different design altogether!
