I have a set of 17x7.5 Toora rims.

I currently have 235-45-17 tyres all round, but I really need wider tread on the rears, as my powerslide at 95mph in 4th gear in the wet last week highlighted!

What's the widest tyres I can safely fit on these rims?

Thanks guys

Well, I've got 255's on 8" and I wouldn't go ANY wider. I'm no tyre expert but you don't want it bulging out and looking crap. I'm not sure if you could go wider than what you have already.

There will be some pikey tyre shop somewhere willing to squeeze them on for you but be careful.

That's what I'm worried about. I don't fancy a blowout when I'm hard into a corner.

Maybe I need wider rims....

Ive got 18" 7.5 wide with a set of 265/35/18 tyres on the tyre its self is not bulging and looks sensible to the wheel.

Toyo recommend max 255 for a 7.5" rim!

Interesting...thanks for the info..I'll have to dig around and see what I can find.

You could still run 295's (perhaps bigger) without sticking out beyond the arches, but you've need to buy rims with a smaller offset first.

Si.

I'm running 275/35/18 + 235/40/18 on 8.5" and 9.5" respectively, and the rears are not bulging out at all.

Charles, 1 question I would like to know the answer to is, is your Z a TT?

Of course! I'd like to see a NA spin up in 4th! :)

Well no wonder you can powerslide at 95mph. Over here the rears should be 245s before they are even legal I think! I'd get some wider rubber on. I bought mine with 225s on, then put 245s on, then 265s, then 255s and now 275s. You cant beat having good grip.

The tyre can have an effect on the bulgey look, I had a set of 255's pzero's on me wheels before, they looked nasty the tyre appeared to have a square cut side wall! the new tyres i have, the tread curves round onto the side wall!

I picked up 2 265/35/18 tyres fitted for £218 new!

The bloke told me the company that make dunlop produced them they stick well and are cheap enough so I cant complain

Running 245 on front and 265 on rear, much much better than stock, but still completly useless in even the slightest of damp roads.

Why? What make are they?

the wider the tyre the more likely it is to slip in the wet.

Yes I agree, but we are talking about having a wide enough tyres to be able to only to deal with grip in the wet, but also the power that our cars produce.

Steve, sounds like you need to replace those tyres mate......

I run 255 rears and 235 fronts, all Goodyear GDS3 F1s, and the grip is amazingly good in everthing but snow (Hence the ZX stays in the garage during snow :nono: )

I've not once felt the car slip or slide in wet weather since I had them fitted

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I know mate - I need to get wider rubber, but with 7.5 rims I don't want to make a dangerous decision and go too wide...

I am running 245/40 on my 17"/7.5 and have had absolutely no problem with them. They look fine and handle as well as can be expected.

3rd gear 80mph sideyways action!!

Quality

I'm runnin' Goodyear Eagle F1's 245 40 18's on an 18 x 8.5" with 60mm spacers on a wide arch kit and my car sticks to the road like S**T to a Blanket, No complaints at all , However I will go up to a 265 after burning these out.

ive got a question ????

ive got 265 x 35 x 18 on my rears and 225 x 35 x 18 on the front and ive notice a lot of people put a 40 on the front and not a 35 are mine wrong size for the front or not? also wheres the best place for cheap 265 x 35 x 18 i need x2

Got pirelli P-zero ZR rated on front and rear, one of the best value tires I think you'll find which is why porsche use them as standard. However, still no grip in damp conditions which I beleive is perfectly normal, even if you drive a "stock" Z.

Im not tuned that heavy either, running 15psi, SE chip, Blitz induction , and zorst from mani back?

But when turbo spools. bye bye grip (unless a nice hot, dry summers day)

p.s. at safety boost at around 7psi i get complete traction lmao, but the car is as slow as a dog!

Lol, you must drive everywhere on negative boost then

Standard tyre circumference is 1983.6mm

225/35/18 is 1931.14 (-2.64%) ie at indicated 70mph actual: 68.15

225/40/18 is 2001.82 (+0.92%) ie at indicated 70mph actual: 70.64
