hi, everyone,

there is another question for all of you again;

I haven't drive my z for about a week, and now I can't even start the engine, I tried to start it up by connecting the battery to another car's battery, but it seems useless, and nothing I could do with it, any idea?

Thanks for all of you

any advise appreciated

if the battery is really knackered, then when you jump start, your dead battery draws all the current for itself & none gets to the starter.

id try a battery 1st

get a battery specific for the Zed , the terminals must be in the right place other wise there is problems connecting it up, especially the earth lead ,

a good battery will set you back about 50 / 60 quid

good luck mate

Sorry to join this so late, but your car isn't an automatic is it? I had a similar problem (not on my z) and the problem was with the inhibitor switch. That makes it impossible to turn the car over "in gear".

Just a suggestion,

Simon ;)

hi everyone, my zed is a automatic, I think I am going to get help from local garage or AA, but I don't know is it a best idea although I am a memeber of AA, anyway thanks for your advise and suggestion, hopefully it can be sorted soon, and I'll let you know what the problem is, which is helpful for someone who have a similar problem in the future. if all of you know something else, please let me know, as it migbt be help.

You havent got the box in drive have you?

It wont start unless the box is in park

yeah like stu says. Run the gear selector from top to bottom a few times it might cure a stuck inhibitor switch.

Dickens , I was browsing the web tonight and like to look at the Z site now and again , still a member!

I sold this car to Dickens about a year ago. The battery should be good, as I bought it not long before I sold the car. One thing you might want to look at is the negative ( - ) connection terminal. I remember when I fitted the new battery it was a struggle to reach the negative terminal with the lead.

After I fitted it , a few days later I lost all power whilst driving.

I checked under the bonnet and the lead had lost connection , it was stretched too far. I reconnected it , but there was always a possiblility that this would occurr again. The immobiliser was fitted just over a year ago.

I would check this , then just call AA out, thats what you pay 'em for.

Good luck , anything else email me on Dilbrain37@hotmail.com or just ask the fine folk here.

hi everyone,

I did contact AA already, and they came this afternoon, take about 3-4 hours to LOOK AT my zed, but at the end of the story, they just told me they don't know what's wrong with it, then take it to my local garage and that's what they have done today (what I am going to say is I got nothing from AA). Also I am a member of AA already, but because my zed is broken down at home, so they want me to pay another 80 quid to upgrate the service although I paid 150 quid last time, I think it doesn't make any sense. Now the repairer from my local garage need to have a look, the only thing I can do is wait and wait, I have no confident with him to get it done. Any advise? or What I gonna do?

I just have been told that there may be some problem with the distributor (I don't even know what it is), and he asked me to get it repaired or replaced as he had the exactly problem as mine on his prelude (everything is fine except turnning over). Does anyone know it makes sense?

I really need help, as it seems that nothing I can do with my zed

He must mean the PTU. If he does I might be able to help you out. Ask him first why he thinks it's that. Are you getting a spark?

Vijay

was this the garage that told you the distributor has failed??

as it wouldnt stop the engine turning over

as a few have said it sounds like

dead battery

inhibitor switch

not engaged in drive properly

have you got a toad alarm (similar) where you need to press the small button to disengage the imobiliser??

is it actually clicking or is it locking on the starting ring

you need to eliminate all the things people have advised you in the other posts, or risk getting ripped by someone who knows you know nothing

To Vijay:

my mate told he had the same problem as mine, and he took his prelude to Honda and tried to find out what the problem is, but it has been taken about 8 weeks for nothing, so he took the car to the local electric auto shop, the staff there took the distributor out of the car to get it repaired somewhere else, after that, his prelude is back to normal starting engine. That's why he suggested me to have a look at the distributor; That's all I know about it, sorry

To Billynomates:

I have got a CAT2 immobiliser, but it is working well, after I unlock it, and trying to turn it over, then there is some clicking sounds from the engine and clicking actually just like normal, but wouldn't start.

Please give me some more advise, thanks indeed, mate

sorry m8

not sure what you mean by "clicking normally" as clicking isn't normal

another thing mentioned you need to try, but needs two people

one turning the key, and someone looking down by the starter motor

to see if your getting any shorting/arcing

so best to try this in the evening

have you tried moving the gear stick to neutral N ?

while its been parked up has the alarm gone off at all do you know??

have you got the code for resetting the alarm, a flat battery could also

cause an alarm to do wierd things, ie if the battery is flat AND the back up battery is knackered

have you got access to a charged battery that will fit, or disconnect your battery and use a good set of leads to connect straight to your two terminals

from good battery

while you were messing with the jump leads you didn't connect wrong way round did you?

again as mentioned before check the earths, especially the one from the

- side of the battery

try and let us know EXACTLY where the clicking is coming from

you could short the starter, but if your knowledge aint that great i wouldnt advise that, unless your looking for a viking funeral lol

also mentioned before i think, while turning the key move the gear lever through every gear a few times so leave the key turned hard right

and as you move the lever the clicking should come and go, it MAY shock it into starting, again making sure its with a full battery

and last thing i can think of, shut all doors/bonnet/tail and reset alarm

and when you disable make sure your getting normal beeps/light flashes

left out it could also be the starter solenoid/relay

but your gonna need an auto/spark to check these

if you don't know what to look for

I have copy all you mentioned here to print it out, and today I bring it with me to see the repairer in the garage, but he don't think any problem with the battery, alarm, alternator and distributor, it seems everything is working except turnning over, so he told me there is not a lot we can do at this stage, the only thing we do is keep checking, also he asked me to wait until next week, as he is trying to check any wrong with the fuel pump and something similar.

have you guys heard anything about it or someone have a similar problem as mine?

also I am so worried about it although the repairer don't think there is a big problem with the engine, as I have not much money to spend on repairing

Thanks again

Sounds to me like the garage is talking out of his ear. "IF" the car is not turning over what on earth is he going on about????

  • Author

do you mean he is trying to cheat me? or I need to find somewhere more reliable?

as MARKSTEVENS says m8

the fuel pump will not stop the car turning over

you need to speak to someone who aint gonna shaft you

  • Author

yes, I agree, as he is always ill, and I can't even get hold with him so far, do u have any recommendation garages in Portsmouth area or Hants? Also what kind of garage I need to check it? as I have been many places and I have been told they don't/can't do it or even check it.

Please Help me, it seems that no one can help me

It "seems" to me you only need a competent machanic. Maybe thats easy to say from here but thats what I think. I am too far away to help any more than that. Sorry.

  • Author

That's no problem, mate, but do you think is nissan more helpful than a local garage? I have been told that nissan is the only places where I need to get help but I am afraid that it will cost me a lot, as I mentioned, not much money to spend until may

  • Author

also another mate of mine told me that he has a smilar problem on his Integra Type-R, and his problem is the part of distributor where connects spark plugs is broken, that's why he couldn't turn it over - new part sorted it. Any idea? PLEASE HELP

as above m8 to far away to recommend garages/mechanics

in that area, as for the distributor, again it wouldnt stop

the engine turning over, if the pick up in the dizzie was knackered

it would just stop it firing, same as any problems with the plugs

only thing that would stop it turning is the prevoius things mentioned
