Right; I'm gonna go and look at it. What should i check?

OK, I've told the girlfriend we can't have a holiday this year, and maybe I'll give up smoking too so I can (sort of) afford this 300ZX I mentioned before. (It's on autotrader, 1999 S-red, auto, non-turbo, Jap import, 35,000 miles).

Any idea what should I check when I go and look at it?

I've had a look at several on line buyers guides and there's so much information it's a bit confusing.

I'm hoping cos it's from a dealer and reasonably new, if it does go wrong I can go back and make him fix it (I'm a consumer journalist!).

But any advice would be really handy.

I'm mechanically competent with bikes but not really with cars.

Thanks folk.

My advice would be get somebody from this forum to look at it with you. They wont be looking at it through rose tinted glasses

and will give you an unbiased second opinion.

I`m in P`boro if thats any help - but ask anyone local and I am

sure they will help.

Whereabouts in Peterborough are you I can show you the

I have expanded this map off the back off a business card. I hope it helps you find it. Once you have turned right by the pub follow the road for half a mile and the turning you need is on the right, one hundred yards before the road goes over the motorway. Follow the road round to the right, it dog legs to the left, and the entrance is the furthest exit, up a steep rise and through some gates. Be careful if you bring the 300 out, if you go to fast ot grounds out considerably. "Popes Croft" is a large private house at the end of the driveway. (You continue straight down it) His yard is right at the end. Hope you find it okay,

Hi - that car has been advertised for quite a while. Also note that it's quite a high price for a non-turbo, you could buy a Supra TT for that price!

Are you sure you really want a non turbo?

Good luck,

Geoff.

Tim,

When are you thinking of going to look at it? Might be an idea to go out in a TT before you buy.

Vijay

i second vijay - what do you want out of a '99 na.

nothing wrong with that but you can probably find a TT on here well looked after so almost everything is new -

I dont live far away if you come down to rickmansworth take the na for a test drive and i'll meet you and take you out in a 14 psi TT.

Regards,

alex

Well I`ve given him the option.

Tim - if you want to try a tt in P`boro give me a call.

Wont charge you anything - not even the petrol!

Plus lots of free advice.

Mark

why not ?? - a fleet a tt's turn up to look at a na

the salesmans face should be a picture :D

I'll come too :D

3 modded TT's will do the trick LMAO !!

Craig, just make sure it's in "Proper Bo" condition before you "Selecta" you Z  You may not get a "Rewind" of the money you spent on it if you want to return it.

I guess I could have a Supra twin turbo but not a 1999 one.

I'm keen to get a new-ish car as I can't afford to spend loads keeping it going and I think a 1994 car (and that's the sort of Supra I'd get) one would need lots more maintenance than the Nissan.

Thanks mark

I'm going quite early tomorrow so probably haven't got time to see yours. It's a good offer and I might take you up on it.

I won't buy this one tomorrow; I just want a test ride and if it seems ok, I'll go back in a week or so, give it another thorough check. It could be useful to have a guided tour of yours before that.

Cheers

I did drive a TT.

A mate at work had one.

It was pretty fast.

He tried to sell it to me for about £2500 but it was a knackered fairlady with 120,000 miles, 1990 reg etc and was costing him a fortune to keep going, which was why he wanted to sell it.

Bloody hell, not the Craig David:D ;)

Surely you could afford a Lambo or something:rolleyes:

Sorry, couldn't resist;)

If it helps, I have been to this dealers (only 20 mins from me) and they seem pretty good. They are well established and have good workshop facilities should something go wrong (although that's no good to you in Peterborough).

I saw a couple of Zeds there before I bought mine (although not one from AutoBMC in the end). The owner, Ken Nobbs, usually imports nice stuff and knows a bit about the Zed's usual faults.

I would offer to meet you if you come down but unfortunately I had a slight falling-out with Mr Nobbs over a deposit on a car I did not agree to buy. (So he may not take kindly to me turning up at his place again!) I did win in the end, but don't let my experience put you off. Just don't be too keen as he can be a bit pushy.

Still, if the car's not what you want, I guess you'll be "Walking Away........"

Whoops, sorry again:D

Good luck

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As I've said before Craig, Offer him about £9,000 for it, let him slutter and cough all he likes, but he's had it for bloody ages!! and probably is keen to shift it. I would think what he's asking is the right ball park for a TT of that age, but not a N/A. Go give him hell!!

Oh, best tip, it's only 4 years old with 35K on it remember, so unless everything is absolutely perfect, inside/outside/underneath/running condition etc.... walk away quickly!!

Good Luck!

Loads of good advice there, thanks.

I didn't buy it but might go back and have another look.

He said when he first advertised it, he had it up for £12,999. Anyone know if that's true?

Cheers

Lack300's car is £12,500 which I don't have.

It's also a few years older than the one I'm looking at and while I'm sure it's in top condition I just don't have the know-how to look after an older car.

I can only just afford to insure the NA car so one with loads of extras, more power, bodykit etc would probably cost even more.

So I would like Lack300's car but I can't afford to buy or run it.
