Does anyone know the best place to attach engine slingers to an engine that has already had the plenum removed from it in situ?

Featured Replies

Hmmm, dont know. Every write up I have seen say pull it out by the plenum.

Be careful!

If you use the mounts, the engine may tilt.

Better way is to put the bolts back in the location where the plenum used to be attached with (on both sides of the engine, see picture)

And then use a chain, attached to these bolts to lift the engine.

Works fine...I always do it like this, since I don't like the engine to be lifted by the plenum :)

Thanks for the replies.

Those bolts are for a bracket that supports the pipe going to the turbo. The plenum attachment bolts are all on the top of the engine. Would these be strong enough to support the entire engine as they only usually support a small bracket?

Also, what are the plenum locations for lifting it as I could always bolt the plenum temporarily back on?

It's where the bolts go into the engine, not the bracket.....it is around that location

Sorry...haven't got a better picture

Hi Eric

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I seem to have not explained myself correctly. I know this is where the bolts go into the engine but my worry was the holes are just designed for holding that bracket in place. Am I just being over cautious? If you've already tried this then I presume everything should be ok.

Cheers.

it should hold up fine, as long as you use it for lifting the engine only (without gearbox)...just put the bolts in as far as possible or use slightly longer bolts.

I've lifted several engines this way.
